Day 73 – I am afraid of my next step… You have to look closely at this picture. When I took it, I was scared to death and trying not to drop my phone. We are on top of the beast, as we called it, at Sojourn Adventures near Atlanta, GA (See Day 70). Our mission was to walk across the uneven boards to get to the next platform. Gang…, I have rock-climbed, rappelled, and even jumped out of airplanes at the US Army Airborne school, but this challenge buckled my knees. My conscious mind was clear, telling me to go forward. My subconscious mind, on the other hand, was frozen. I was afraid to take that step. It did not matter that I was in a harness and could not fall; my subconscious mind owned my body, and my feet would not move. There are times in our lives when we know we must move forward, yet the solid platform we stand on is safe and stable. The safety of the here-and-now allows fear to out weights the unknown, so we don’t move forward. What I have learned is fear is the thief of opportunity. To overcome fear, we need two things: curiosity and faith. First, you must be curious about stepping into the unknown and faithful that the unknown holds our future. Our challenges were put before us by a greater power not to make us afraid, but to grow us. It is time to ‘entrepreneur-up’ and take the next step.
