I love how everyone talks about how 'evil' Edelgard is for starting the war but Rhea is right there? Like spoiler warning for the rest of this post but she literally created the church and enforces the Crest system, she deadass has anyone who disagrees with her executed and she threatens you and your students throughout the first half of the game? Like she isn't even subtle like the first fucking mission she sends you to help deal with an uprising against the church and literally tells you it will serve as an example to any of your students (who for the most part are just a bunch of teenagers) what would happen to them if they were to go against the church. But Edelgard is wrong cus she 'started' the war like???
Yes her attack did kick off the fighting between kingdoms but Rhea has been sending armed troops to put down any who go against her literally since the second you start the game???? Edelgard does plenty of morally questionable choices but how come when she does it shes evil but when Rhea does it no one says anything? Or when Dimitri does morally questionable stuff everyone glosses over it cus he's in a bad spot mentally? Edelgard as a child had to watch all ten of her siblings be experimented on and slowly die from said experiments (as she was also being experimented on) but Edelgard is evil for not wanting anyone to have to go through the same thing she and her siblings did and for wanting to overthrow the system that not just allowed such things to happen but encouraged them?????
Like I'm so fucking tired of everyone's fucking hot take on how Edelgard is evil for starting the war cus people will die in war like bitch people were already dieing yall act like fodlan was soooooo peaceful and El just out of nowhere was like 'you know what would be fun? War crimes!' Like The kingdom was literally falling apart from the inside the alliance is constantly fighting Almyra and the empire literally had a whole ass civil war like right before the start of the game but noooooo it was Edelgard that started all the fighting.
But back to the Crest stuff like you cant even try being like WELL MAYBE THE EMPIRE DOES CREST EXPIRMENTS cus Its happening everywhere! Edelgard was in the kingdom when her and her siblings were being tortured and we know it was happening in the alliance too because the same thing happened to Lysithea and just by talking with other students (sylvain, Mercedes, marianne, Ingrid) you know that even if people aren't being actively tortured for crests the whole system is still broken. Like Edelgard is one of the few who doesn't gloss over the horrors of war she knows that it's not glorious she knows that it will cause death and destruction and she is constantly tormented by the thought that she will fail and everyone who died in the war will be for nothing but shes evil because she knows that it's either sacrifice everything to build a better future or nothing will change and she has accepted that decision. Not even Claude acknowledges the shear amount of death and destruction war causes and hes like the only one of the lords/Rhea that is mentally stable in all routes.
I'm not saying you HAVE to like Edelgard but I'm so fucking tired of people acting like Edelgard is the root of all evil in fodlan and that anyone who likes her is a bad person or whatever cus they believe in the future she works to create. I'm just saying take a look at the fucked up shit the other main characters do and stop blaming edelgard for everything that's wrong in the game
