Quiet Around The Baby

The room is loud. So incredibly loud. Virgil had long since stopped being able to understand what the fight was about. Roman and Logan were loud, so were Remus and Patton. Janus was caught in the middle, trying almost desperately to put an end to the fights, and Thomas was trying to figure out what was happening.

He looked between Janus, his ex-caregiver, and Patton, his current one. Neither of them even looked at him to check on him even though they both knew he hated loud noises. His eyes got blurry with tears and he looked around at the other sides.

Everyone was so loud, he felt a sob choke its way out and, before long, he was crying and everyone had stopped fighting to direct their attention to him. He hiccupped as Roman offered him a paci and a teddy bear. He grabbed for him and let Roman place his new bear and paci in his hands before picking him up and sitting down on the stairs holding him.

“It’s okay, Virgil. Deep breaths with me.” He shook, clinging onto Roman and his new bear, already teething at his paci.

“He’s shaking.” Logan sounded sad, he made everyone sad, he hiccupped tears again.

“It’s your fault, you’re next to him, you should’ve known!” Remus accused. Virgil hid away in Roman’s arms, shaking more and trying not to keep crying but his whimpers were slowly turning back into crying.

“No, no, don’t cry.” Janus sat beside Roman, fingers going through his hair. “You’re not in trouble.” Janus assured him.

“No, Logan is!” Remus snapped. Virgil choked a sob back.

“Ow!” Remus grunted as Janus’ foot bolted out to take out his own, causing him to fall to the ground.

“Shut up, you’re scaring him.” Janus threateningly hissed at him. Virgil peeked at Remus, seeing him look at him and he hid his eyes away again, scared Remus would get mad at Janus and yell again.

“Virgie, I’m sorry.” Remus apologized softly. Virgil wiped his eyes with his hoodie covered hands.

“You’re alright, little guy. We’re sorry for scaring you.” Patton apologized.

“How about we put on Nightmare Before Christmas?” Thomas offered, already queuing the movie on the television. Virgil looked up at him and happily squealed, jumping on and tugging at Roman.

“Yeah, we can watch, little one.” Roman held him as he stood and sat them on the couch to watch the movie, everyone else eventually joining and Virgil happily watching until he eventually fell asleep against Roman.

CG! Janus Sanders Headcanons

Because I'm bored and trying to avoid falling asleep until it's actually a decent time to sleep 😪

No surprise, he's BIG on self-care.

Absolutely will make sure you take your meds, brush your teeth, drink water, and don't stretch yourself too thin.

This man and his videogames. If it's something that you enjoy, he'll be sure to bring out your favorite gaming system and (Kid Friendly!) games.

Mario and Animal Crossing are two of his go-to's. He likes the fun competitiveness and the calm island development.

Speaking of self-care, if you enjoy cuddles, be prepared to be wrapped in so many blankets. He chills easily, thanks to being part snake, and will take any opportunity to stay warm.

And keep you warm too, of course.

Snacks are a hit and miss. He tends to gravitate towards the unhealthy, easier options like chicken nuggets. It isn't that he doesn't like to eat healthy, he just gets so distracted having fun with you that he doesn't have time to cook.

It's totally not because he can't cook.

Definitely not.

Whatever the case may be, expect to spend the day with someone who wants you to have fun and be cared for.

Edit, Early 2022: I just wanna officially state that I have no plans of completing this au, or any of my sanders sides fics. It’s been over a year since the last part (when did a year go by omg??) and I’ve moved onto other things. At least for now, I’ll leave them posted + leave this abandoned blog up since it shows off my first agere writing pretty well and it just holds a lot of memories, but I might change my mind later and unless something really cool happens in the sanders sides universe/fandom, I’m not coming back to this blog.

Hyperfocused

Janus is going to get a glass of water when he hears it. Passing Logan's door, cute 8-bit music. He had told Logan earlier to get some sleep... Janus opens the door to see Logan sitting on his bed in his unicorn onsie, his gaze glued to his phone and his eyebrows furrowed. "Baby, what did I say about getting sleep?" Logan's eyes snap up to meet Janus' "Oh..." He looks to his alarm clock, and upon seeing the time (2am), frowns. "But I jus'... no! Tha's too late!" Janus' gaze softens as he realizes what happened. He does this with work too... "It's okay, little one. Have you eaten yet?" Logan shakes his head, and his stomach growls in confirmation. "C'mon, lets get you some food." Logan looks to his game again, but finally shuts it off. He follows Janus to the kitchen, then sits on the counter. "What do you feel like eating?" Logan furrows his brows in thought, but eventually shrugs. "Does jam and bread sound good then?" Janus asks, picking up the first fee things he sees, a strawberry crofters jar and bread. Logan nods and Janus makes him two slices while getting his water. Logan eats quickly, having not eaten all day. Janus cleans his messy face, "Okay little star, lets get you to bed." Logan giggles a little when picked up and Janus takes him back upstairs. "Do you need anything to help you sleep?" Logan shakes his head and Janus lays him down and tucks him in. Logan turns on the usual playlist he has for sleeping and Janus kisses his forehead, "Goodnight baby."

"Want it!!!"

Janus sighed, exasperated, and held the cup out of the regressed man's reach, "No, baby boy, you aren't allowed."

"Pleeeeeeease." Remy begged and tried reaching for it from his high chair. He had only had a sip from Patton's mug this morning and it just wasn't fair!

Janus set the cup down on the table where the other's were all gathered around for breakfast, "You are already wide awake, dearest. You aren't allowed to have any when you are small and you know that."

"I wan it! Now! Now now now!!!" Remy huffed and smacked his hands down on the tray.

"What has gotten into you today Remy?" Patton came out from the kitchen holding a few plates of food.

"We don't hit the table, little one." Logan added from the kitchen bar.

Remy pouted and continued to throw a tantrum, "No fair! Wan it! Wan coffee! Hmph!"

"I'm gonna count to three and you better calm down so we can talk." Janus takes remy's hands in his own gently to get him to stop, "One."

Remy continued to whine and make upset noises.

"Two."

"No no no no no!!!!!!!"

"Last chance, rem."

"Waaannn iiiitt!!"

"Three. Finish your breakfast and then its time out time."

Remy huffed and tried to shake his hands away from Janus. For the next few minutes he begrudgingly ate breakfast and was sent on his way to time out. His caregivers were such meanies!

Caregivers: Logan/Janus

Regressor: Remus

Remus was sitting on his bed watching beetlejuice for the third time in a row and using crayons to fill in a gory picture in his coloring book. Neither activity was exactly kid friendly but Remus didnt know what else to do. He only knew the creepy movies, that was his jurisdiction, so that was what he watched. Same with the coloring. He might try to draw something 'normal' bit it always came out....off...

None of the other sides knew he regressed to deal with the constant stream of intrusive thoughts running through his head at all times. He was never one to keep secrets but this...this was the one thing the other sides didn't know about him and he was going to keep it that way. He didnt need them to pay less attention to him than they already did when they would surely decide he was less of a threat than they originally thought.

He pouts at the idea of less attention. He really cant get enough if it. Not that anyone is willing to give it to him. Sure Deceit might tolerate him. They might even have what some would call pleasant interactions from time to time. But Janus was really very busy usually, and he tended to get very grumpy when Remus interrupted his meticulous planning sessions with his morningstar and a moldy banana that he threw at the wall.

So there he sat in his room, watching beetlejuice and colouring alone, even though he really wanted someone to pay attention to him.

Janus noted that Remus had been acting...odd lately. He would make excuses for why he had to leave the room suddenly and while it was believable to most of the sides when Remus said he had to go figure out the melting point of birds, Janus could taste the lie.

After a few times of this happening he decided enough was enough and he was going to get to the bottom of whatever the trash man was doing. It was making him nervous to say the least. Remus didnt usually lie so whatever he was doing was probably highly destructive in Janus's mind.

When he creaked open the door however he did not expect to see Remus in a onesie watching beetlejuice and coloring with his thumb in his mouth.

Furthermore he definitely didnt expect Remus to look at him with wide eyes and begin wailing and scrambling away from him.

What??? Was all Janus could think for a few moments before he took a deep breath and slowly approached Remus, trying to calm him down.

"Remus, are you okay?"

He shook his head and backed up a bit more.

"Its alright I'm not going to hurt you." He tried to assure him.

"Bu- but you- think m' not scawy anymore!" He wailed.

Jan winced and reached him, placing a hand on his shoulder and Remus collapsed, knees giving out. Luckily Janus was able to catch him and lifted him up.

"Believe me I am all sorts of scared right now. Come on, we're taking you to Logan, he'll know what's going on with you." Janus quickly sunk out with him confused as all hell as Remus started crying and squirming again. Logan already didnt take him seriously! But Janus kept a tight grip on him and rapped at logans door impatiently.

"Logan. Logan!"

The glasses clad side opened the door with a look of exasperation

"What?!" Then his eyes fell on remus and he stepped back a bit in surprise, giving janus the opportunity to briskly walk in with Remus and set him on the bed. Said side was now hiding his face in a pillow.

"He's broken. We broke him." Janus pointed at Remus,

"He isnt broken Janus." Logan brushed him off and approached Remus. "Hmm...I think I might have an idea of what's going on. What was he doing when you found him?" He questioned.

"Umm...watching beetlejuice and doing a coloring page I think?"

Logan nods to himself.

"And did he seem different than usual?"

Janus points to Remus

"Oh I don't know Logan. What do you think??"

Logan rolled his eyes but nodded. "I think I might have some idea of what's going on."

He sat down slowly next to Rwmus so he didn't startle him. "Remus, how old are you?"

"What kind of question is that? He's thirt-"

"M' two." Came the hesitant reply.

Janus stared at him, more and more confused by the second as Logan just nodded and readjust his glasses.

"As I thought. It seems Remus is engaging in a coping mechanism commonly known as age regression."

"Age what now?" Janus asked as Remus whined and buried his head behind Logan while he rubbed his back, not liking that his secret was being figured out.

"Age regression. It's when an individual either voluntarily or involuntarily reverts back to an earlier stage in their state of mind. So Remus here," he gestured to him "is about the mental mindset of a two year old. Is that right honey?" His voice softened as he turned to Remus for the last bit who nodded reluctantly.

"M' sorry..."

"Oh no need to apologize." He picks him up and sets him on his lap. "Its a perfectly healthy coping mechanism, we arent going to judge you for it." He perks up a bit at that and nuzzles into Logan, enjoying the attention.

"How do you know so much about this?" Dee asked, eyebrow raised.

"Virgil taught me." He responded simply, not giving a further explanation and Janus didnt ask for one. Just sat down next to the two other sides as Remus played happily with Logans fingers, no longer worried about them knowing his secret as it didnt seem like they were going to judge him.

"So...what do we do?" Janus asked finally.

"Well we should supervise him until he comes out of this headspace. From what he's told us he's fairly young and honestly I dont trust adult Remus to be unsupervised." He shifted Remus out of his hold and handed him off to Janus who took him and set him on his hip. "I'm going to make him some food, entertain him while I'm gone." He turns and walks out leaving the too alone.

"So...what do you want to do buddy?"

Twenty minutes later Logan walks in on the two watching a horror film and looks positively exasperated.

"Why are you watching this with him?"

"Um...because he said he wanted to watch it?" Janus looks confused.

"He's two Jan, this is not age appropriate." He turns of the television with a click, getting whines from both Janus and Remus.

"Its lunch time anyways Remus." Logan tuts and lifts him off of Janus. He hands him a sippy cup and some dinosaurs nuggets which he quickly demolishes and whines in complaint when Logan wipes the crumbs and ketchup off his face.

"Hold still Remus." He grunts as he tries to get it while Remus shakes his head away.

"Remus."

Ree sticks out his tounge and hops down giggling and running out the door and into the imagination, he decided he wanted to cause some trouble.

Janus is up and chasing after him almost instantly while Logan shakes his head and sighs in his room, cleaning up the dishes.

Remus cackles as he watches jan try to follow him through the imagination. Remus knows every inch of the territory so he's much faster. At least he was until the imagination did its job. You see since Remus was in the imagination, the place where thoughts come to life, and his thoughts were currently that of a small child...well he shrunk rather quickly to that age and soon enough Janus caught up to him as he stumbled on his tiny legs.

"Gotchya!" Janus scooped him up and he shrieked with laughter, Jan couldn't help a small smile either.

"You certainly are a handful."

He smiles deviously and nods.

Jan brings him back to Logans room but he doesn't regain his usual size. Logan theorizes that he probably wont until he ages up again.

"Remus." Logan scolds when they arrive back. "You cannot run off like that." Ree just sticks out his tounge with a small pout.

"I know baby." Logan takes him from Jan. "It isnt fair is it? But the imagination is dangerous for a child to be all alone in. What if the dragon witch saw you?"

He shrugged, he hadn't thought of that.

"Exactly." Logan set him down on the bed and Remus let out a tiny yawn.

"Is it naptime?" Janus asks

"No!" Remus shouted.

"Oh so you aren't tired?" Janus asked eyebrow raised.

"....nooo... "

"That's a lie." He said "do you know what happens to little babies who lie?"

Remus shook his head.

"They turn into tacos!" Janus quickly wraps him up in a blanket as he giggles wildly.

Janus slips him under the comforter and he frowns "you tricked me!"

"That I did." Jan smirks "now get some rest little hatchling." He grumbles but they taper off as Logan and Janus cuddle him to sleep.

Little Ro & Little Lo-Disagreements

It’s usually a rough day for Deceit, Patton, and Remus when Roman AND Logan start off the day as Littles.

The morning usually starts with a very excitable Roman, whose volume is much louder than required as he tries to wake Deceit.

Resulting in Logan being awoken abruptly, and becoming immediately cranky.

Logan then storms out of bed to Roman’s room, beginning to stim by flapping his hands slightly in irritation at being awoken before he originally planned to wake up.

Once he reaches Roman’s room, he slams the door open without though, which usually catches Patton’s or Remus’ attention.

If Patton hears the door slam, he will rush to Roman’s room as quickly as he can to try and calm Logan before a tantrum starts.

Logan tends to screech at Roman about trying to sleep, but Roman completely ignores him or sticks his tongue at the other side.

If Roman ignores him, Logan will usually get further upset, and start the beginnings of a tantrum.

Which means, clenching his fists, stomping his feet, angry tears, and usually throwing himself on the ground, just scream crying in frustration.

Patton will then try to coax Logan out of Roman’s room, before Deceit wakes up, promising to watch a movie or read his favorite book with him.

Depending on how early Logan is awoken, will determine if the tantrum escalates or if he tries to calm down enough to do said activities with Patton and Remus later.

Ocassionally, Roman will try to provoke Logan further, giggling at his tantrums and teasing him.

He thinks it’s all in good fun, and doesn’t understand he’s genuinely upsetting Logan.

Patton will usually have to forcefully scoop up the upset Little by then, trying to hold him steady enough not to drop him, carry him to the couch, and ask Remus to grab Logan’s weighted blanket and his stuffed animal Hoot Hoot.

While Remus grabs the items Patton Requested, the other will hug Logan as tightly as he can, knowing the pressure helps him calm down.

Once Remus returns, he gives Logan his stuffed owl, and helps Patton quickly wrap the galaxy designed weighted blanket around their Little’s shoulders.

Remus will then hum a soft melody that he knows help calm Logan, for as long as needed.

More often then not it will be till Logan’s eyes begin to droop slightly as he chews on the ear of his owl, snuggled in Patton’s arms, exhausted from his previous tantrum.

During this time Deceit will try to keep a closer eye on Roman, and make sure he avoids talking or disturbing Logan.

He will try to distract Roman with music and games in a different room, but he knows the hyper Little doesn’t like to be confined to only one room.

Roman may become slightly fussy after a while, claiming he wants to play in another room, that he’s hungry, or wants to go outside.

If Logan is at least slightly calmer, Deceit may take Roman to the kitchen to grab a snack, or to play outside.

Once Patton and Remus have calmed Logan down, and have him napping peacefully, Roman will be allowed to wonder more freely as long as he promises to let Logan nap.

Once Roman is back to his original age mind set, he will usually try to apologize to Logan, whether he still be Little or back to his original age mind set as well.

Logan may be a bit grumpy about it at first, but will eventually forgive the other, who will conjure up a new book as an extra apology.

Logan is quick to smile, (Little or original age mind set) once Roman does this, eyes lighting up, and eagerly taking the special gift, and thanking him happily.

It’s bound to happen again, but everyone learns how to handle it better each time.
