Cats (2019)
Me watching “Cats” trailer
Five Musicals more fit for the big screen than Friggin Cats
Dear Evan Hansen
Not only is the concept realistic and fitting for the times, the setting is easily doable for a film. With a plot so grounded in reality, it would appeal to more audiences and wouldn’t need the assistance of creepy CGI cat people.
Wicked
This one is already in the works anyway, but I thought I should include in nonetheless. With a story deeply rooted in our pop culture, this musical would most likely draw in crowds much bigger than Cats, as it is derived from one of the most famous children’s books ever, as opposed to a story hardly anyone outside of the theatre world knows. Wicked has also received recognition outside of broadway circles, where the world has been puzzled about Cats since its conception.
Ragtime
With a plot centering around the lives of a white family, a black couple, and a pair of Jewish immigrants in the early twentieth century, the themes of this show are very prevelent in this day and age. It’s themes of acceptance and the hardships of being an outsider in a white-ruled world could win over critics and touch a new audience of people.
Hamilton
This show has had so much press coverage, it’s hard to believe a film isn’t in the near future. The style of storytelling could prove a challenge for directors, but if pulled off, this show could be very sucessful.
Jekyll and Hyde
This adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s horror novel could draw in fans of darker musicals, such as Sweeney Todd and The Phantom of the Opera. It could also be marketed to fans of horror in general.
So there you go. Five musicals that would mop the floor with Cats at the movies.
What the new Cats movie should have looked like
I would much rather watch these cute cats sing than the creepy CGI ones in the trailer
But in the end I just want to see the musical😁...
What if they made a life action Tom and Jerry???
We’re in a golden age of realistic digital VFX, but the cats still look weird
Rarely is the movie poster photomanipulation on The Big Fat Quiz of the Year less disturbing than the original picture.
