This is the face of a woman who will never have to wash her brothers' dirty socks again.
The Life and Times Chapter 27: Land of Dreams
— JULES.
Ch209 (p2), Trouble arrives
Our earl and Sebastian infiltrate the circus, and Snake is automatically suspicious of them, but he doesn't explain why. However, this quickly skips to the events of ch27 -- the night when Sebastian ties up the snakes into knots for our earl to investigate in relative safety (and then unties them again a bit early), and Doll catches a loose snake while confronting "Smile"... who claims to have been stealing. Of course, on both occasions, his snakes would have told him what they've observed and overheard.
I'm thinking that the main reason Snake doesn't tell Joker right away is because he's also curious about what the others might be doing. Perhaps he wonders if Smile and Black would confront them at the circus and reveal the truth. But they sneak away soon after that, so he doesn't have much choice. Now his best chance of getting information is to tell Joker about it. However, Joker still just sends Snake away instead of letting him in on the circus's secrets.
Outside the tent, he overhears only bits and pieces of the conversation inside, but it increases his suspicions, not just about Smile and Black but also about the circus. He knows the circus is up to some shady business, he just doesn't know what.
Unlike the others, he's never met Baron Kelvin. He might know that "Father" gathered up the original members and acts as benefactor, but he doesn't know about Kelvin changing his personality and becoming obsessed with cosmetic surgery. Most likely, only the core first tier members know about his current condition.
The rest of the cast don't even mention "Father" in their comments and questions, so they probably don't know much about him, if they've ever met him before.
It's interesting that despite having all those snakes around him and being able to communicate with them, he doesn't call them family and still sees himself as alone and lonely. Does he not see them as family? Does he really see them as part of himself, as if they are collectively one person?
More to come.
