Rambling about Fairies - Manga Chapter 87
I quite like that the first unison raid we see is from the girls, and it’s not from a romantic ship either. Sure lots of people ship Luvia for this scene, but Mashima framed this as a moment of acceptance and stepup for Juvia instead. Unison raids after this are all ship-based and always mentioned as if it’s inherently romance-associated. So this is still the most important one to me. Not everyone can do a unison raid, not every bond can unify into one. And not every strong bond is romantic love.
If unison raids are an amalgamation of love, then the fact that Juvia’s first one is with Lucy, who she spent the whole arc antagonising, is very important.
I wish they stopped the love rival misunderstanding thing after this. This scene feels empty when I think about how Juvia hardly changes how she treats Lucy in the next arc. They don’t even need to change much, but the fact that Juvia and Lucy never really have genuine bonding moments after this makes me sad.
