You loved Lee Chaeryeong with every single fiber of your being. She meant the world to you, and you were quite certain that you would do anything for her, even if it meant putting your comfort on the lines.
However you couldn’t help but question if you were going to be able to do what Chaeryeong was requesting of you right now.
“It’s just dinner with my family, Y/N.” Chaeryeong made it sound so simple, so easy, but you knew better than that. This wouldn’t be the first time you had met a significant other's family, and you remembered that most of the time the night was filled with awkward tension and conversation. You loved Chaeryeong and you wanted to do this for her, but some part of you was filled with anxiety and nerves about what could possibly come from meeting her parents and sisters who she talked about so highly.
However, the minute she gave you her signature puppy dog eyes, sticking her bottom lip out at you, you knew that you were going to be going to the dinner even if it made you incredibly nervous. That is how you found yourself nervously fidgeting with a basket of fruits beside Chaeryeong at the front door of her parents house.
Her mom opened the door, greeting the two of you with a bright smile and a hug to her daughter and a soft bow to you.
“Chaeryeong! This must be Y/N. Chaeryeong has told us so much about you,” she said through a smile, her eyes warm as she looked at the way you and Chaeryeong’s hands were intertwined in the space between you two. You felt yourself flush a little bit, handing her mother the basket that you were holding in your free hand. She smiled, thanking you kindly for your present, before stepping aside to allow you and Chaeryeong into the house.
After trading your shoes for a pair of slippers, the two of you made your way to the living room where the rest of Chaeryeong’s family was already sitting, watching something on the TV. Her sister, Chaeyeon, immediately stood up and ran to hug her sister, engulfing her in a tight squeeze while she giggled slightly. Releasing her sister, she turned to you and smiled, putting her hand out for you to shake.
“I’m Chaeyeon. It’s a pleasure to finally meet the person Chaeryeong wouldn’t stop gushing over.” Chaeryeong hits her sister playfully as Chaeyeon laughs, shaking your hand gently. You look over to Chaeryeong with a teasing gaze.
“You must talk about me a lot.”
“No, I don’t.”
“Yes, you do,” Chaeryeong’s father and younger sister both chimed in, causing you to giggle as Chaeryeong’s cheeks turned a light red with embarrassment. Her mom chuckled from the doorway at the antics of her family, before she announced that dinner was going to be ready so everyone should make their way to the dining room.
You took a seat next to Chaeryeong, watching as the rest of her family piled in, joking to each other as they all took their seats around the full table. With a quick thanks, the food was ready to eat. Chaeryeong’s parents got their food first, before insisting that you should get some food next. After all, you were their guest.
After everyone had gotten their plates and Chaeryeong’s dad began eating, you immediately took a piece of kimchi and put it in your mouth. You hummed happily as the savory flavor that rested against your tongue.
“This kimchi is wonderful, Mrs. Lee.” Chaeryeong’s mom smiled gently at you, thanking you for your kind compliments. It was only then that you began to relax, enjoying the flow of the conversation around you and even adding to it when you were called upon. Unlike the other dinners you had been dragged to, this one felt natural and relaxing. There were no awkward questions, or tense silences, only laughter and warm inquiries about you and Chaeryeong. It warmed your heart that Chaeryeong’s family was so accepting of you so quickly, and you had to admit that being in the Lee family house for dinner felt very natural.
After dinner was finished, you moved to the kitchen with Chaeryeong and her sisters to help clean up dishes while her parents moved to the living room to get ready for a board game. The energy in the kitchen was a positive one, and you couldn’t help but laugh as you watched Chaeryeong, Chaeyeon, and Chaemin playfully jab at each other and nudge each other. It felt easy, it felt like you were where you should be.
With leftovers packed away and dishes back in their respective cupboard, the 4 of you moved to the living room where Rummikub was set up. After dividing into 3 teams consisting of you and Chaeryeong, her parents, and Chaeyeon and Chaemin, the game began.
It felt familiar to sit with her family as they laughed at each other’s goofs and mistakes, while groaning when one team got closer to winning. And when her parents were declared the winners, you even took part in the playfully pouting that came with losing to your elders.
When it was time to go, you almost wanted to ask Chaeryeong if you could stay a bit longer. You enjoyed being with her family, and you knew it made her more than happy that you were happy to be around her family. But the two of you did have to go home, though you gushed to Chaeryeong the whole way home about how much you loved her family and how you couldn’t wait to officially be a part of the Lee family. Her response was a soft and warm smile, accompanied by a soft rosy blush, as she rested a hand on your thigh.
“I’m sure they can’t wait til you're officially family either.”
[6:23 PM] “Dinner’s almost ready, honey, I know you’re hungry.” You smiled, resting your head on your lover’s shoulder after she’d wiggled her way between you and the counter, her arms wrapped tight around your middle.
“That’s not why I’m here, though,” Chaeryoung smiled, “I missed you while I was waiting.”

You had promised yourself that you were going to stop dancing after high school. Sure, there were fun moments, but there were also countless injuries, countless comments made about your appearance and weight, and far too many nights spent crying and stressing over things that you couldn’t change. You figured college was a chance to finally break out, try something new.
But no. Instead your best friend had dragged you to the school's dance club and now you were stuck going every week. Granted, it wasn’t nearly as toxic as your old competitive studio, but there were still things that made you shiver with nerves at the mere mention.
One of those being partner dances.
You had a notoriously bad history of being paired with the bitchiest, most stuck up girls ever, so when the club announced that the next couple of weeks would be spent rehearsing partner dances, with 2 being chosen at the end to be performed at the bi-annual showcase, your heart dropped and you almost left. But Wonyoung’s world famous puppy dog eyes forced you to stay.
“Now, we know you guys like to work with your friends, but we want to try and encourage you guys to branch out. So, we’ll be drawing sticks to find your partner!” Your hands started to sweat as the club leader moved along the classroom, holding a bucket with various sticks in it. When she approached you, you hesitantly took a stick, covering the color on the end before you could overthink anything.
“On the count of 3, uncover your stick and find your partner!” You took a deep breath as the leader counted down, before you removed your hand from around the end of the stick. Your eyes quickly landed on the pastel yellow end of the stick, and you were quick to look at your friend next to you. Wonyoung’s stick had pink at the end, causing you to deflate slightly. The room was a bit of chaos as people moved around to find their partner. You glanced at everyone who passed you, not seeing any yellow.
“Sorry, not to bother you, but do you have yellow?” A soft voice sounded from behind you. You spun around to see a beautiful girl, with soft eyes and beautiful long brown hair looking at you. Sure enough, the colors at the end of your sticks matched perfectly. She flashed you a smile as she held out a hand.
“Hi! My name is Lee Chaeryoung. It’s nice to meet you!”
“My name is Y/N.” You shook her hand gently, before moving to the side with her to allow the others to find each other more easily. Once everyone was paired up, the club leader smiled at everyone.
“Great! We are gonna be collecting all your pairings and creating a schedule for when you can come in to use the studio, though we highly suggest meeting outside of your allotted time. If you have any questions, text me, but otherwise you guys are free to go! Make sure to get your partners information!” Chaeryoung turned to you, her phone already unlocked.
“Here, you can give me your number and I’ll text you so we can try to work out details before our first rehearsal!” Her energy was infectious, making you smile and nod as you punched your number into her phone, handing it back to her. She pocketed it quickly, before hoisting her bag onto her shoulder.
“I’ll see you later, Y/N!” You watched as she walked away, a little bounce in her step as she exited the room. You didn’t even know you were smiling til Wonyoung walked up to you, and an eyebrow raised and a knowing smirk on her lips.
“Whatcha smiling at?” Wonyoung teased, causing you to blush as you swatted at her, causing her to laugh as you walked out of the room with her trailing not far behind you.
The next morning you woke up to a text from Chaeryoung, telling you her schedule for the rest of the week and asking when you were available. You cursed under your breath as you read her message. She used various emojis and almost everything ended in an exclamation mark, and you wondered how someone could be so cute even through writing.
You messaged her back, surprised that she responded almost right away. After a few messages back and forth, you decided to meet at Chaeryoung’s apartment later that afternoon to pick a dance to learn and start planning logistics.
You couldn’t help but spend almost all day thinking about it, completely drifting off into your thoughts during your lecture for the day. Luckily, Wonyoung was paying enough attention for the both of you, so you would just ask for the notes later. You rushed out of the room as soon as your lecture was over, waving a quick goodbye to Wonyoung before heading to the campus cafe.
You walked pepily down the sidewalk, twisting your wallet string in your hands. You needed some coffee after that lecture, and you figured that Chaeryoung could use some too. You had briefly looked over her instagram page yesterday, and noticed that she always seemed to get an iced americano when she went out with her friends.
So that is how you found yourself exiting the cafe with your own drink and an iced americano in your hands. The condensation from the cold drink dripped onto your hands, but you didn’t care as you were too excited to meet up with Chaeryoung.
You found it kind of odd how excited you were. Normally you dreaded partner dances, but for some reason you were looking forward to working with your partner. You brushed off your excitement as just being happy to have a positive partner experience for once.
Chaeryoung’s apartment wasn’t too far off campus, but by the time you reached her door your hand was practically drenched from the condensation. You used your foot to tap the door lightly, before standing and waiting while tapping your foot.
The door opened to reveal a smiling Chaeryoung, whose eyes instantly went to your hands in shock.
“Oh! Hi!” You smiled at her cuteness as you thrusted the americano towards her.
“This is for you. I figured I’d bring you a coffee as long as I got myself one,” you explained, stepping in as she moved to the side and smiled.
“Well, thank you! Sorry for the mess, my roommates can be a bit of a handful,” Chaeryoung explained as she closed the door behind you. You looked around the apartment, chuckling at her words. The living room of the apartment was hardly what you would call messy. Sure there were some things scattered on the coffee table, and some dishes in the sink of the small kitchen area in the corner, but compared to some other apartments you had seen, this one was relatively clean.
“Come on, we can go to my room!” She said, before leading you down the hallway. Her room resided at the very end, her door covered in photos of her with various friends and family members. The interior of the room was cozy, the walls covered in posters and different pieces of art. Fairy lights adorned the ceilings and a Twin XL bed sat in the corner covered in a blanket, various pillows and a few plushies.
Chaeryoung set her americano down on her bedside table, before sitting on the bed and grabbing her laptop. You joined her, sitting opposite her on the mattress.
“So, I was looking through and trying to find some duet dances that we could do. I have a list that we can look through if you want.” You nodded eagerly, scooching closer to Chaeryoung as she pulled up the list. Your eyes scanned over, but stopped almost immediately on one of the options.
“Monster? By Seulgi and Irene?” You asked, double checking to make sure you were on the same page. Chaeryoung nodded excitedly, her eyes sparkling as she turned to you.
“Yeah! I always see videos of their performance and I feel like we could do it really well,” she explained, already typing in a performance of them. The two of you watched their Music Bank performance, completely enamored and in awe of the way the duo moved together, so sharp yet so smooth. By the time the performance was over, a smile had made its way onto your face.
“I think we should do it,” you said. Chaeryoung turned to you, a smile on her face.
“I think so too,” she said, before eagerly beginning to fill out the form for the club captains. You felt yourself smile softly at her excitement, your heart beating a little faster than usual. Something about Chaeryoung made you happy, but you couldn’t figure out what.
Your thoughts were interrupted as she finished typing and looked up at you.
“Should we get to work then?” You felt yourself nodding with a large smile, her excitement spreading to you.
This was going to be fun.
-
A few weeks later, the two of you had your first rehearsal in the studio. You both stretched together, before Chaeryoung connected her phone and you guys went to work. You had marked through the first verse roughly, but it was hard to do with the limited space in Chaeryoung’s apartment. So you spent some time marking through it now that you had room, before deciding to run through the first verse with music.
“Ready?” Chaeryoung asked. You nodded, squatting down into your starting position. You heard Chaeryoung run over, and then the music started. The two of you moved in sync with the beats, swaying side to side. You guys looked good in the mirror, synchronized and mature.
As Chaeryoung slid in front of you, you felt your face turn a slight shade of red. The minute she began dancing, your brain short circuited. You had seen Chaeryoung dance before, but nothing like this. Watching her pop her chest, her face sultry as she tried and succeeded in portraying the emotions of the song. You felt your mouth open slightly as her hair flipped, falling beautiful around her face and down her shoulders.
You were almost caught off guard as she squatted down, revealing you to the mirror. You stumbled for a moment, but soon found your own rhythm, trying to match the level of beauty and intensity that Chaeryoung had given. As the verse slipped into the pre-chorus, you guys held your positions, staring at each other. You felt yourself take a shaky breath as Chaeryoung stared at you, her eyes intense.
The moment the pre-chorus started though, her eyes widened and they returned to their natural sparkle, which did nothing but cause your heart to beat even faster. She smiled at you, before pulling you into a hug.
“We got it! Oh man, we are gonna give the best performance!” She said, squeezing you tightly. You wrapped your arms around her, relishing in the hug that you were receiving, before pulling away and giving her a smile.
“I agree. Now why don’t we run it one more time and then we can move on. We can clean stuff later.” Chaeryoung nodded, running to pause and restart the music, giving you a moment to catch your breath and calm yourself down. Why were you so nervous, and why was your heart beating so fast? It was just Lee Chaeryoung. You pushed the thought out of your head as Chaeryoung asked if you were ready. You nodded, promising that you weren’t going to lose focus for the rest of rehearsal.
You did not wind up keeping that promise. As you both moved onto learning the pre-chorus and the chorus, you caught your focus drifting as you watched your partner move. She was just so smooth, and she could turn on her stage presence in a moment. Despite your best efforts, you found yourself struggling through the rest of rehearsal, though Chaeryoung was nice about it (which of course did nothing to help your heart).
When the rehearsal was over, Chaeryoung and you walked for a bit, discussing plans for the next few days of practice. You parted with goodbyes, and your promises to memorize the part by next rehearsal. You felt yourself smile as Chaeryoung waved you off, before walking away.
Walking into your apartment, Wonyoung was almost immediately on your ass. She popped up from where she was sitting on the couch watching some reality show and b-lined over to you.
“So, how was it?” she asked, a teasing smirk playing on her lips as you rolled your eyes at her.
“It was fine, why do you ask?” Wonyoung laughed, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
“Cause I’m wondering if you’ve realized that you like Chaeryoung yet.” Your head shot to look at her, eyes piercing into her own large ones.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean that you obviously have a crush on Chaeryoung, you just refuse to admit it.” You scoffed at her, walking past her to go to the kitchen to get dinner. Wonyoung followed you, sitting at the small breakfast bar, her chin resting on her hands.
“I do not have a crush on Chaeryoung, nor do I refuse to admit it,” you grumbled into the fridge. You could feel Wonyoung rolling her eyes at you, as she sat up straight.
“Yujin! Get in here!” You groaned, resting your head on the now closed refrigerator door. You heard footsteps, signalling the arrival of Wonyoung’s partner in crime, Yujin.
“Do you think Y/N has a crush on Chaeryoung?” Wonyoung asked. Yujin let out an incredulous noise, somewhere between a scoff and a laugh.
“You’re kidding, right? Y/N’s whipped.” You turned around, giving Yujin the unamused face she was far too used to.
“There is literally no proof to back up your claim,”
“You bought her coffee,”
“So? I’m a nice and giving person,”
“Last time I asked for a coffee you laughed at me and then walked away,” Yujin said, deadpanned. Wonyoung laughed at the memory, as you threw your hands up in exasperation.
“You’re also you, Yujin. I don’t know what you want from me,” you said, getting a glass to pour yourself from water. Wonyoung got off of her stool, walking over to wrap you in a back hug. You rolled your eyes, but let her do what she was going to do.
“Come on, Y/N. At least give it some thought, okay?” Wonyoung pleaded. You turned around to deny her, but were met with the puppy dog eyes. The same stupid puppy dog eyes that forced you to dance club and the same stupid puppy dog eyes that are responsible for your current situation. You sighed, grabbing your glass of water before walking past your two roommates.
“Fine. I’ll think about it. Now, I have to go do some homework,” you said, before walking to your room and closing the door. Letting out a sigh, you made your way over to your bed, sitting down with your laptop. You were about to begin your essay for class, when your phone buzzed. You frowned, looking at who was texting you. The frown immediately turned to a smile as you saw Chaeryoung’s name pop up, her sending you a text about one of her favorite TV shows she was trying to get you to watch.
Typing out a quick response, you set your phone back down and stared at the blinking cursor on your laptop. You opened a new tab, and went to Netflix. Typing in the name of the show Chaeryoung was talking to you about, you felt yourself sigh and slump into your pillows.
Never in a million years did you think you’d say it, and never in a million years would you say it to her face, but Wonyoung was right. You let yourself watch the show, mind running a mile a minute on what to do with the newfound information that you were falling for Lee Chaeryoung, and also the newfound information that you were more than okay with that.
The next few days were spent in anticipation. Chaeryoung and you had decided to take a small break before meeting up again, and everyday that you didn’t see her was both agonizing and relieving. It gave you time to try and figure out how the hell you were going to act normal around the girl that you were head over heels for, but it also gave you time to miss her, which was dangerous to you.
Finally the day rolled around where you and Chaeryoung were going to meet up again and you could feel your palms sweating in anticipation. The plan was simply to meet up at Chaeryoung’s apartment, record what you two had already been working on, and then watch it back and compare it to the original video of Seulgi and Irene. It was simple, but just the thought of sitting with Chaeryoung and talking was enough to get your heart racing a mile a minute.
After hours spent worrying and contemplating if you were ready, Wonyoung and Yujin all but kicked you out of the apartment, giddy for you to see Chaeryoung so they could tease you when you got back for your flustered state.
The walk to Chaeryoung’s apartment was much faster than you would have liked, and before you knew it you were back in front of her door. You didn’t even knock before she opened the door, her reddish brown hair tied into a high ponytail and her eyes sparkling. You forced yourself to act normal, giving her a smile as you walked into the living room.
“Hi! This is one of my roommates, Ryujin,” Chaeryoung said as she shut the door, moving to point at the breakfast bar in the small corner kitchenette. Ryujin, a girl your age with black hair, smiled at you with a wave.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Y/N. Chae never shuts up about you,” Ryujin said, a smirk playing on her face as Chaeryoung gave a shout of protest. Her comment had your cheeks heating up and you were desperately trying to figure out what to say next.
“Don’t listen to her. Ryujin is only here to film us so we can watch it back, so don’t pay her much attention,” Chaeryoung defended, shooting a playful glare to Ryujin, who just laughed it off.
“Come on, I have to go work on my project with Yeji,” Ryujin insisted, standing up to grab Chaeryoung’s phone. Chaeryoung and you prepared yourself, stretching for a minute, before you got into position.
The dance went smoothly, well as smoothly as it could when you were busy ogling Chaeryoung and her ability to be the most charismatic person you had ever met. But you managed to keep yourself in check long enough to finish the dance with little to no obvious mistakes, and you would take that small victory for now.
Ryujin left pretty soon after you were finished, leaving you and Chaeryoung to sit at the breakfast bar while she hooked up her phone to her laptop. With the video and youtube pulled up, the analysis began.
“So I think we both need to be a little more sharp here,” Chaeryoung said, leaning slightly to point at the spot she was noticing. Her shoulder brushed against yours and you swore that your breath was gone. You tried to regain it, but you couldn’t help the way Chaeryoung being so close made you feel.
“Y...Yeah,” you stuttered, silently cursing yourself for stumbling over your words. Chaeryoung looked at you, obviously noticing your hesitance, her eyebrows furrowing in the cutest way possible.
“Are you okay? Here, let me get you some water!” She slipped off the stool, walking to the cabinet for a cup and heading to the sink. With her back turned, you rubbed your eyes quickly, quite certain that you were not going to live to see the concert so long as Lee Chaeryoung was around.
-
Practices went on, and every time it became a little easier for you as you learned how to focus on anything other than the beauty that was Lee Chaeryoung. Finally it was the day of the performances, and you were a nervous wreck for two reasons.
One, you were going to be performing your routine for people for the first time. You had done it countless times before with Chaeryoung, and you had performed other dances numerous times, but that didn’t mean you still didn’t get that little knot in your stomach before you had to perform.
Two, Lee Chaeryoung was in costume and makeup, looking like one of the most glorious things you had ever seen. You two had helped choose the others outfit, to make sure that they matched, but you hadn’t seen her in her own outfit until now. The black crop top was intricately woven around her chest and shoulders, and her shorts were connected to a small thigh holster. Her hair was in a high ponytail, and she had sparkles adoring the corners of her eyes, only making her starry eyes appear more clear.
You knew you had to calm yourself before you performed, but even as you and Chaeryoung stepped in front of the group, cheers echoing off the walls as you got into position for the beginning of the dance, you couldn’t help but stare at her reflection in the mirror until the music started.
The performance went really well, even if you found yourself getting caught in Chaeryoung’s elegance and beauty. You took it as a challenge to try and match her energy, trying to achieve the concept of deadly love in a similar way to Seulgi and Irene.
As you guys hit your ending poses, chests heaving up and down as you struggled for air, you couldn’t help but stare at Chaeryoung in the mirror again as your classmates broke out into cheers and screams. Finally allowing yourself to break position, you weren’t ready for Chaeryoung to turn to you, pulling you into a tight hug.
You instinctively hugged her back, trying not to freeze up at how perfectly she fit into your arms and how adorable her happy laughter felt in your ear. When you pulled away, her cheeks were bright red and her smile was the widest you had ever seen.
“We did it!” Chaeryoung exclaimed. You nodded, smiling, and everything seemed to vanish around you. It felt cliche, but it was the only way you could describe how the cheers seemingly drowned out and how your eyes focused on Chaeryoung and Chaeryoung only. Your eyes met, and for the first time you noticed something other than a sparkle in Chaeryoung’s eyes. It looked almost like affection, and you couldn’t help your eyes from flickering from her eyes to her red painted lips.
Chaeryoung seemed to notice, her own eyes falling to yours, before she leaned in quickly and pressed her soft lips against yours. It was a quick kiss, both of you feeling embarrassed in front of the crowds of people that were now whooping around you, but it was a perfect kiss nonetheless.
Lips disconnecting, you felt yourself come back to reality, the situation finally hitting you. But Chaeryoung was smiling at you with a dazed expression, and you couldn't help the way your heart fluttered at her cuteness. You intertwined your fingers with Chaeryoung’s before turning back to the front with a flustered expression. The captain of the club, Eunbi, couldn’t help but smirk at the way you were both looking at the crowd.
“I guess we know why you two had such good dance chemistry. Especially for a song like that.” Her statement made both you and Chaeryoung look down at the floor in embarrassment, but you caught each other’s eyes and couldn’t stop the soft smiles that made its way to your lips.
You were quick to bow in thanks, before pulling Chaeryoung out of the room to talk in a more private space, her giggles filling your ears like soft bells. There was still a lot to talk about and a lot to figure out regarding your relationship with Lee Chaeryoung. You knew you would have to deal with Wonyoung and Yujin teasing you later, and you would need to admit that you had been crushing on Chaeryoung for longer than you had known, but for now you were just focused on the girl with you and how perfect her hand felt in yours.
Which is why the minute you were out of the practice room and into the quiet hallway, you pulled Chaeryoung into another kiss, your heart melting at the way she responded quickly, like everything was a puzzle piece falling into place.
