HOOOOH OKAY,, MASSIVE #LORE DROP INCOMING, WATCH OUT

So, for those who don't know, Butcher is a Gluttony Demon !! However, his Sin isn't about consuming lots of food - it's about love

In my Universe, the Gluttony Demons are characterized as Sin-born beings who feel chronically empty, requiring an abundance and over-consumption of something in order to fill that emotional/psychological void, yet, paradoxically, never feeling satiated or full no matter how much they indulge or consume, always craving more. For some Gluttony Demons that something may be food, entertainment, substances, or anything that may come to your mind, really. With Butcher specifically, it’s love

Butcher craves love like oxygen, never having enough of it no matter how much he receives or forcibly takes it. That’s also why he eats quite a lot, as food is often prepared with love, so it serves as a buffer/coping mechanism, barely silencing his Gluttony to keep going without fully losing his mind or dying in the process ((although it has to be noted that he also simply likes and enjoys food, both cooking and eating it !! it’s just that in the beginning of a story, he has a rather… messy relationship with it,,))

Now, as if all of this wasn’t already enough, Butcher, on top of all that, suffers from various insecurities, firmly believing that he’s unlovable and fundamentally corrupt, doomed to be alone and hated by literally everyone in the world. For this and many other reasons, Butcher has started to commit his “crimes of passion,” falling head over heels for people who were even vaguely nice and kind to him, becoming so obsessed with them to the point of stalking, later kidnapping, and then killing and devouring his “lovers” in order to “keep them close with him forever.” What’s messed up is the fact that such “love” is completely one-sided, and even Butcher himself doesn’t ACTUALLY love his victims !! He’s just so terrified of loneliness, abandonment, and vulnerability that he would rather drag others into his mess thinking “he’s fixing it” rather than actually working on himself

That being said, he wasn’t always like this… and not all his “lovers” ended up on his plate

There were two. Two people that, not only Butcher never devoured, but also never fell in love with first. I won’t get into detail about who they were and what they did to not make this post any more triggering but just know that these two “relationships” that Butcher was in were extremely toxic and abusive, with him as the victim. These two people have left an irreversible damage on him, traumatizing him to such an extent that simply seeing people similar to his two “exes” or a color associated with them - blue/cyan - causes him to start shaking, feel nauseous, and just shut down from panic completely,,

With that, since my dream is to turn Chained Hearts into an animated show, I feel like visual storytelling is extremely important !! And this is exactly what this character - “KARMA” - represents :))

Technically, it doesn’t matter who Butcher’s “exes” were, what they looked like, and what they did. What matters is the effect they have on him and how he perceives them overall. “KARMA” is not an actual entity, but Butcher’s self-perceived punishment. He believes that his two “exes” were his karma manifested, meant to punish and haunt him for all the innocent lives he took because of his own selfishness

So, this is the reason why “KARMA” looks exactly like it looks !! I imagine their hair-eyes multiplying or disappearing depending on how much control it has over Butcher,, The more paralyzed and tortured he feels, the more eyes stare down at him,,, O_O

OH !! AND ALSO ! Notice the ring… and the “Godly” images… and the crosses being in places where Butcher’s chains are… and how cyan isn’t a natural color ((kinda)) and is seen only in computers and other devices… Yeahhhhh… Lots of things to unpack here

Xion hums lowly, gloved hand patting a cloak pocket to silently estimate if there is still enough munny left for another stick of ice cream. There’s probably enough for two more, they think, swiveling in their spot to head down the alley where the corner store is located.

A dark streak of swift movement is caught at the corner of their eye, though, and they turn just in time to see an odd-clothed form sprinting just at the street opposite of them. Not that they’re still on patrol, but that seems a suspicious enough event that needs investigating-- maybe even needs to be reported to VII or the Superior as soon as they RTC. Xion runs after it--

no, it’s a person, from the looks of it...? Interesting.

“Hey wait!” XIV dares to call after them, wondering if it’s simply a town local in need of serious help if they’re rushing like that.
