Challenge 115: Freebie: Classic Art Redraw
Since I missed out on Marc’s fun ‘Draw This in Your Style’ challenge, I did a reinterpretation of my own this time around! It’s based on John William Waterhouse’s painting, Boreas.

Challenge 115: Freebie: Travel Planning When my boyfriend (and fellow Square Carouselian) Jordan and I are planning a trip, we gather our books and notebooks and laptops, and head to the coffeeshop to do research. It’s such a quiet little activity but one of my favorite things to do with him. I’m always excited about the trip, but I also just love the atmosphere and spending time with him in that way. Maybe I’m a geek, but planning stuff with someone you’re 100% comfortable with, and have the same visions as, can be so much fun. Caitlin
Challenge 115: Freebie - Very Personal Portrait
‘For my freebie I decided to pursue a project of my own illustration. When I joined Square Carousel I finally redid my own self portrait, trying out to new coloring styles that really take advantage of the digital medium. At the same time I also started one for my wife, hoping to get to it when I had more free time.
The past year has been a strange one. And there is one thing I’m trying very hard to learn. Time is not something we can save up, we can only spend it. Putting something off for a later day just extends the project further into your proverbial wallet. Instead, I want to be more present. If I feel an idea blossom, I should give it the time it deserves. Just like the love of my life. She deserves it.

Challenge 115: Freebie: I Love You To The Moon
Over a year ago my wonderful boyfriend bought me a letterpress. Until we moved in October it was sitting in a studio that I rarely went to (it was a 30 minute drive from my apartment). This week I finally started the process of cleaning and preparing it for use! It’s proving to be a lot more involved than I had thought, but coming up with greeting card designs like this one is helping to keep me motivated!
My boyfriend and I celebrated our fourth year of being together last week, so I guess you could say I had him in mind while I was working on this design. Hopefully it won’t be long before I’ll be able to get some physical prints out into the world!

Challenge 115: Freebie: The Wreck of the Plassey
I’ve been wanting to try scratchboard again for a while, and this was the perfect opportunity. I haven’t worked with it since college, and I don’t remember liking it that much. But now that I’ve had a lot more practice working in ink I thought I’d see what I could do with it. I think it turned out well. The process was a nice change of pace and I really enjoyed building up all the values and textures.
