Head Over Heels
Based on this ask
Synopsis: Changbin is such a good shoulder to cry on when your bf (ex) cheats on you. It only takes a little ice cream date to realize you're in love with him as much as he is with you.
WC: 4.9k
Warnings: smut (are we surprised), it's very soft smut, unprotected sex (never do this), a fight between reader and cheating bf, Changbin does in fact get a little violent (blink and you'll miss it), riding, lots and lots and lots of kissing, soft Changbin, I think that's all
A/n: I'm sorry this took me so long anon :((( School has been kicking my ass and work too...sooo thank you for being patient. I didn't write it as multiple dates and kind of wrote it in my own interpretation (it was also getting very long), so I hope that it's okay for you. This isn't beta read, so all mistakes are mine! Thank you for the request!! Enjoy :)))

The air was charged and tense. You could feel Changbin’s gaze linger on you as you made your way down the hall, each step echoing louder than you intended – or maybe that was all in your head.
It was late. Shadows cast throughout your apartment, and you could still sense him behind you, steady and waiting.
You paused, your fingers brushing the cool handle of your bedroom door. The silence between you expanded, dense and cutting, until Chanbing’s voice finally broke it.
“Are you okay?” He asked, soft but certain and concerned, the words just barely above a whisper.
You turned, meeting his eyes in the darkness of the hallway. There was something there – a flicker of a heavier worry, maybe, or something else you didn’t want to name. You nodded – swallowing the knot in your throat threatening to choke you until you let the tears flow – and tried to smile.
“Yeah,” you said, your voice thinner than you expected it to be. “Just tired.”
Changbin didn’t move immediately. He stood in the silence, head bowed just slightly, as if weighing whether to step away or close the distance between you to provide you comfort.
“Okay,” he said, and the word seemed to hang in the air, honest and tense.
You watched his hand flex at his side, a restless gesture, then relax. The quiet between you wasn’t empty, but charged with heavy unsaid words.
You turned away first, the cold metal of the door handle grounding you. The click as you opened it was sharp and almost startling, but you left the door ajar behind you. Maybe you wanted him to follow. Maybe you just could’t shit him out right now, not after tonight.
Three hours earlier
The air at the party had been thick with music and heat, but all you could feel was the disgusting churning feeling in your stomach.
He was in the shadowed hallway just off the living room, his laughter still echoing in your ears.
“Unbelievable,” you hissed, voice low but sharp enough to cut through his stupid chuckles.
He spun, eyes wide, fixing his shirt like that could erase what you had seen.
“You’re overreacting,” he had said as you were storming through the living room, but you couldn’t hear any of the guilt in his voice over the tears quickly flooding your eyes.
He wouldn’t even look you in the eyes when you found them, and that mixed with the sound of his incessant voice in your ear had made you snap.
“I saw you,” you said, voice trembling. “Don’t treat me like I’m stupid.”
He stepped closer to you, “You’re the only one, I swear, it didn’t mean anything.” The desperation edging his words now, pleading with hands half-raised. You took an equal step back, not wanting to be any closer to him than you already were.
In the corner of the room, Changbin had been eyeing you, his eyebrows furrowed and jaw set tight. He stood and started to make his way over to you when he saw you take a tense step back.
You shook your head, feeling tears starting to flow freely. You were done believing him. “Don’t,” you said, “don’t lie to me. Not again.”
You could feel Changbin's presence behind you, stepping closer as you told off your now ex-boyfriend. Based on the way your ex-boyfriend’s face hardened, you could tell Changbin was glaring at him.
Your ex’s lips curled, something mean sparkling in his eyes as he looked over your shoulder at Changbin.
“Of course, right? You’d run to him the second things get hard anyways.” His voice was burning, loud enough for you to flinch and a couple people’s heads to turn – even with the music swelling in the background.
You clenched your fists, anger boiling under your skin, but he didn’t stop, always one to have the last word.
“What, are you going to cry and get him to dry your tears? Unbelievable. You always need someone to pick up your mess. Guess that’s what Changbin’s here for.” He said Changbin's name like a slur, as if disrespecting your best friend gave him any type of power.
You felt your cheeks burn, but you refused to look away. “I trusted you,” you managed, voice cracking but strong enough to make him sneer at you. “But you’re just a coward, blaming me for what you did.”
He rolled his eyes, suddenly laughing. “Please. Don’t act so innocent. Maybe if you weren’t so fucking-”
Changbin had had enough of his insults. He stepped forward quickly and punched him square in the jaw. Your ex went down like dead weight, not even trying to get up. At this point, the music was still going but every eye at the party was on you.
You curled into yourself from the attention and Changbin turned back toward you, putting his arm around you and leading you out of the front door.
Changbin ended up following you into your room after hesitating at the threshold. You knew he would, somewhere in the back of your mind. When you wouldn’t look at him, he crossed the space between you anyway, careful but persistent.
He drew you in after climbing into your full sized bed with you, arms wrapping you up, and you melted against him before you even realized you’d given up resisting. His warmth broke you open.
You let your head fall to his shoulder, eyes stinging. He just held you, gentle and solid, until your shaking stopped.

After that night, you couldn’t shake the heavy, sinking feeling. The days blurred together into a long week, dull and colorless, every mirror and idle moment reminding you of things you didn't like about yourself.
You caught yourself doubting, replaying everything in your head – the accusations, the ugly words, the way you cried in front of everyone, the image of your ex all over some other person.
It made you want to hide away, but Changbin wouldn’t let you vanish. Whenever your mood dipped, he’d find you, pulling you close and wrapping you in his arms like you were the most precious thing on earth.
“You don’t even see how incredible you are,” he whispered into your hair, “and kind, and so much more than anything he ever said.” He’d pepper your cheeks with gentle kisses, reminding you over and over that you mattered, until you started to believe it, little by little.
“Why don’t we go out today, hm?” He mentioned softly. You were barely wanting to get out of bed, much less going out in public. Sensing this, he pulled his face from your hair and gazed deeply into your eyes.
“Just to the park or something. I’ll get you some ice cream and we can take a walk at that one park – the one hidden behind the creek? Nobody will be there.”
You giggled a little at the offer. “It’s like 20 degrees outside, Changbin.”
He smiled softly at the sight of your little giggle. It warmed his heart to see even just a little happiness in your eyes after the last few days.
“I know, but ice cream is your favorite and I’ll buy it for you even when it’s zero degrees outside.”
You smiled harder, burying yourself back into his soft chest. For a moment, you just let yourself stay there, your face pressed into the familiar cotton of his t-shirt, the steady thump of his heart beneath your ear.
You breathed in his warmth and the faint scent of your shared laundry detergent, letting it soothe the sore places inside you.
Changbin hummed against your hair. “If you don’t want to, we don’t have to. I can always just…hold you like this,” he murmured, his hand making slow, gentle passes down your spine. “As long as you let me.”
You knew he meant it, and somehow, that made the ache a little easier to bear. Still, you pictured the two of you at the park, shivering together with ice cream cones in your hands, and the ridiculousness of it made your smile linger. For the first time in days, it felt genuine.
“Okay,” you heard yourself say, voice muffled. “Just don’t laugh at me if I complain the whole time.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” he responded fondly, stroking your hair.
Outside, the world was sharply cold, it was so brisk it felt like it smacked you in the face. You shivered, and Changbin immediately reached into his pocket, tugging out his own gloves and offering them to you wordlessly.
You blinked at them, then at him. “You’ll freeze,” you protested, but Changbin only shrugged, pressing the thick fabric into your hands.
His cheeks were already pink from the cold, but he didn’t seem to mind – only focused on your comfort.
If only you could date a man like him.
He waited, patient and stubborn, but so gentle you felt an ache in your throat. So, you tugged them on, warmth flooding your fingers, and when you looked up at him again he was grinning.
“Now we can go,” he declared, nudging your arm with his. He didn’t let go of your hand, just held it, the bare skin of his palm against the knit of your glove.
It felt clumsy and sweet and warm and everything you’d been missing. He matched your steps as you headed down the sidewalk, your breath misting in the frigid air.
The park was empty, just as he’d promised. Most of the trees were bare, the branches sticking out boldly against the grey sky. The creek running along the forest edge was frozen over.
The little ice cream shop hidden in the back of the park always had someone working in it regardless of the temperature or the day. Changbin led you up to it by your hand and ordered for the both of you. He already knew your favorite and you didn’t have to do anything but stand there and hold his hand.
The cold stung your cheeks and the wind bit at your ears, but Changbin’s fingers kept your own steady and warm, interlaced even through the borrowed gloves. He gave the employee your order with a little smile, his voice comfortable and sure, and you felt oddly protected in the circle of his attention.
While he waited for your cones, he stayed close, your arms brushing as you both pretended not to look at each other too much. But you could feel the way he glanced at you, almost like he was checking to make sure you were really there, and really okay.
The small, odd ache in your chest almost made you laugh. Only Changbin could make something as ridiculous as a winter ice cream date feel like the most tender and intimate thing in the world.
“Here,” he said when your order came up, pressing the cold paper of the cone into your glove. Your hands brushed and his was so bare and cold you made a face at him.
“Your fingers are freezing,” you protested. “It’s practically snowing.”
“You’ll warm them up for me, right?” he teased, eyes crinkling just a bit as he nudged your side. The ease in his voice lit up something in you that had been dark for days.
You took a bite of your ice cream, which immediately sent a brain freeze slicing through your head. You winced, scrunching your nose, and Changbin’s laugh rang out, bright and real and close.
He reached over, covering your gloved hand with both of his, as if he could shield you from the chill.
The air was so cold it made your lips numb, and your ice cream started to melt anyway, stubbornly daring you to eat faster. Changbin grinned at you over his own cone, his eyes creasing, and you couldn’t help but smile back, even as your teeth chattered a little.
“It’s worth it, right?” he asked, voice low, like he wanted to stay in the little bubble of comfort you had created.
You nodded, eyes watering from both the cold and the icy sweetness, and watched as his thumb rubbed over your knuckles again. For a moment, everything else – the ache, the bitterness, the memory of being broken and betrayed – all of it felt far away, smoothed over by the simple warmth of his attention.
You walked together along the path, boots crunching over fall’s leaves and brittle frost, your hands never separating. Sometimes you both lapsed into silence, but with Changbin, even the quietness of that silence felt gentle and tender.
He nudged you when you slowed, matching your steps exactly.
He didn’t let it get awkward, didn’t draw attention to how your steps sometimes faltered or how you let out little sighs that fogged the air between you. He just kept pace beside you, let the gentle rhythm of boots on gravel fill up all the places words would have otherwise filled.
Sometimes you glanced at him out of the corner of your eye, as if expecting to catch him staring, but he just looked straight ahead, thumb never stopping its slow, grounding circles over your knuckles.
The path curved around the frozen creek, the trees creaking in the wind, and the sky grey with the promise of snow. You shivered again, this time a little harder, and Changbin noticed immediately.
He tugged you closer, until your shoulder was tucked against his side and the edge of his coat brushed against your arm. You laughed quietly, the sound muffled by the scarf you’d forgotten you’d wrapped on so hastily, but it felt easy. Almost light.
“Still think ice cream was worth braving the cold?” you asked, giving him a glee filled look that was no doubt incredibly fond.
He pretended to consider it, licking a stubborn drip from his cone. “Mmm, I don’t know. Maybe you’ll have to convince me.”
“Oh?” you grinned, eyes glinting. You watched him carefully, letting your smile linger for a heartbeat. “I could make a pretty good case,” you said, chin tilting up in challenge.
Changbin's own grin widened, eyes softening. “I’m listening.”
You walked a few paces more, getting to the door of your apartment and unlocking it quickly, rushing inside into the heated space.
“First point in flavor of ice cream,” you said, trying to sound formal, but your voice came out lighter than you expected, “is that it’s scientifically proven to improve your mood. So you know, basically medicine.”
You kick off your shoes and hand your jacket to Changbin so he could hand it in the hall closet along with his.
“Second,” you added, “I know for a fact you secretly love the ridiculous flavors they have there. Didn’t you get, like, Fruity Pebbles last time?”
Changbin laughed, cheeks rounding and eyes crinkling. “And you got double chocolate with actual sprinkles,” he countered, nudging your side with his elbow.
“That’s not embarrassing, that’s tradition,” you argued back. “And- wait…wasn’t it your idea to go get ice cream in the first place?” you giggled. “If anything, you should be convincing me.”
He let out a laugh with you and plopped down on the couch. You flopped down beside him, the cushions giving way beneath you. For a second, you just let yourself sink in, the exhaustion settling into your bones in a way that wasn’t entirely unpleasant. Changbin settled in close, his knee bumping against yours, casual and comfortable.
You could feel him watching you, but when you turned, he was pretending to fiddle with the TV remote.
“So,” he said, clicking the TV on, though neither of you really paid attention to the screen slickering in the corner. “So you feel better?” The question was soft, not insistent, just an open hand if you wanted it.
You hesitated, studying the knit pattern of the blanket on your lap. “A little,” you admitted, your voice small but honest. “I know it’s stupid to let it get to me, but…”
You trailed off, shrugging, and Changbin’s answer was to lean in and gently bump your shoulder with his. “It’s not stupid,” he said, and he sounded so sure of it that you almost believed him.
“You just want someone who cares about you, and treats you like the special person you are. There’s nothing stupid about that.” He added.
You felt a strange tightness in your chest at his words. Maybe it was relief; maybe it was the ache of regret, or some mix of both. Because Changbin – the way he saw you, so gently, so clearly, so unlike anyone else ever had – it made everything solid and soft at the same time.
You start to realize something as you look at him. He’s the person that you want. The person you think of when you think of your ideal person – it’s him.
It was him, always had been, even when you pretended not to notice. Even when you told yourself he was just a friend, just comfort, just the arms that always caught you when you feel.
Now, sitting here with the warmth of the apartment and the echo of his laughter in your ears, you realize you never wanted to know a world where Changbin wasn’t the one holding your hand.
You felt your cheeks flush with the realization, but Changbin didn’t seem to notice. Or maybe he did, and he was just waiting for you to catch up to what he’d probably already known.
The TV went on in the background, some cartoon neither of you cared about, and you found yourself watching the way his hands moved. The way his fingers tapped against the remote, then drifted over to the blanket to cover yours, casual but deliberate. So much of him was like that – unassuming, patient, but always, always there.
You shifted a little, tucking your feet further into the blanket, and Changbin shifted too, scooting closer until your knees knocked together. He was careful, like he was always careful with you, but he didn’t pull away. If anything, his thigh pressed more firmly into yours, anchoring you there against the swirl of old sadness.
You stared into each other, neither of you daring to look away, and not realizing that you were slowly getting closer. Before you knew it, your lips were touching, and you couldn’t stop.
It was so easy, slipping into him. The familiar tilt of his head, the warmth of his breath, the gentle pressure of his hand as he cupped your cheek like you were something fragile and irreplaceable.
You’d kissed before, in a moment that didn’t count – a dare at midnight on New Year’s, laughing too hard to take it seriously – but this was different.
Your whole body felt it. The vulnerability, the trust, the way his mouth moved over yours like he meant it, like there was nothing in the world he wanted more.
You melted, every tense knot in you dissolving into that softness. His thumb traced your jaw, slow and steady, and you let your hand rest on his chest, feeling his heart thudding wild beneath your palm. . He was nearly shaking, just a little, and that made you braver.
You parted your lips and let him in, and Changbin sighed against you, relief and longing all tangled together.
You didn’t know who made the soft desperate sound first, maybe it was the both of you, but it echoed between you, and you both smiled into the kiss, shaky and giddy and almost disbelieving.
When you finally broke apart, foreheads pressed together, Changbin kept his eyes closed for a second longer, like he couldn't quite stand to let the moment go.
“Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for you?” He whispers desperately.
“I didn’t think you’d ever…”
You trailed off, lost in the intensity of his closeness, the way his forehead pressed to yours. Changbin’s hands were warm where they cradled your face, but his voice was unwavering.
“Show me,” you said, “show me how much you need it. Because I do, I need it.”
Changbin’s breath caught, and for a heartbeat he only stared at you, the rawness in his gaze making your pulse stutter. Then he surged forward, his mouth finding yours with a new urgency. He kissed like he needed to memorize the shape of your lips, and the sound of your shaky inhale, the way your fingers knotted in his t-shirt, it spoke to your desperation.
You let yourself fall into it, letting his hands slide down from your cheeks to your jaw, to your neck, thumbs stroking slow, grounding lines that made you feel wanted in a way words never could.
You clung to him, hands pressed to his chest, feeling the frantic beat of his heart. It matched yours, wild and unsteady. The kiss turned messy at the edges, teeth knocking, small laughs slipping out between frantic presses of your lips.
Changbin didn’t seem to care at all; if anything, it made him smile against your mouth, made him press closer, his arms winding around you until you were practically tangled together.
When you finally broke apart for air, he didn’t let you go.
He tugged you back in, lips brushing yours with a dizzying sweetness, and you barely had time to gasp before he was kissing you again, softer this time, slower, like you were something precious. His hands slid down your back, fingers splayed and careful, and you breathed him in, every part of you humming.
You pulled him closer, feeling the heat blooming between you, and when his body pressed to yours it felt like a promise. The world outside faded, tucked away behind the warmth of his touch.
His hands found your hips, guiding you into his lap, your knees bracketing his thighs as you melted together. The slide of his hands under your shirt sent a shiver through you, but it wasn’t just the cold anymore. It was need, tender and aching.
He was patient, gentle, letting you set the pace, kisses turning languid and deep. You touched him greedily, fingers tracing the lines of his jaw, his shoulders, the steady warmth of his chest. Every inch of him felt safe. Every sound he made, every whispered word, was just for you. And when you finally joined together, it was soft and slow and everything you’d ever wanted.
Changbin’s hands cupped your waist, careful and sure, coaxing you closer until your bodies aligned and your noses brushed. Your breath stuttered, the hush of the room folding around you, and every tiny sound – the rustle of clothes, the unsteady beat of your hearts together, the catch of his breath as you found each other again in a deeper kiss – felt magnified.
He kept his touches gentle, his palms sliding beneath your shirt, skin on skin, his thumbs tracing slow, soothing circles at the small of your back.
You slid off of him to take off your pants and panties, and he slid his pants down his legs.
You crawled into his lap, skin prickling with cold and anticipation all at once, but Changbin was so warm beneath you it made you tremble.
He held your hips steady, eyes searching your face, checking for any sign you wanted to stop—but all you could do was nod, your hands fisting in the cotton of his shirt until he pulled it over his head and tossed it aside.
His mouth was on yours again, crushing and soft, making you feel like you were the only thing he wanted in the world. He guided you down, lining himself up, moving slow enough that your heart nearly ached. You sank onto him, inch by inch, letting out a shaky gasp that he swallowed greedily as his arms wrapped around your back.
He rocked you gently, barely more than a sway at first, letting you get used to him, his grip careful, grounding. You clung to him, foreheads pressed together, every movement slow and burning and impossibly intimate. In that hush, nothing existed except the warmth of his body and the way you fit together, perfectly.
Changbin’s breath shuddered against your cheek, his arms locked around your back, holding you so securely you felt like you could never fall again. He started slow, his hips rocking up just enough to let you settle, every movement measured and patient, and you clung to his shoulders, skin prickling at the sheer closeness of him.
“Is this okay?” he whispered, his voice soft at the edges, and your only answer was a soft gasp and a desperate nod, your fingers knotted in his hair. That was all he needed—you could feel him smile, a little tremble running through his frame as he tilted his head to press his mouth to yours, gentle but hungry.
You moved together, held tightly in the hush of your living room, the TV still flickering colors across the walls, casting shadows you barely noticed. Changbin’s hands mapped their way across your back, up and down, steadying you, thumb stroking comforting circles at your waist as if he could anchor you both in this unreal, perfect moment.
He murmured your name into your mouth, over and over. Sometimes it sounded like a prayer. Sometimes it barely sounded like anything at all, just a ragged, desperate sound smothered by your lips. But you couldn’t get enough of hearing it—the way his voice trembled, the way your name sounded brand new coming from his mouth. Every time he whispered it, something inside you broke open and spilled warmth through your chest.
You rocked together, growing bolder, more frenzied, the initial gentleness gaining a wildness that sent heat racing down your spine. Changbin’s hands gripped your waist and he held you tighter, strong enough you felt like you might dissolve if he let go.
His lips dragged along your cheek, your jaw, your throat, leaving a trail of hot, open-mouthed kisses that made your breath come fast and shivery.
When you rolled your hips just right, his whole body shuddered beneath you, and you felt a rush of pride, of giddy affection, seeing him so undone for you.
“Fuck, do that again,” His head tipped back, eyes fluttering shut as you rolled your hips down on him again.
He found your mouth again, sealing you together with a kiss that was more like a promise than anything. You tasted ice cream and a little salt and a lot of longing, and you were certain you’d never get over this, this feeling, this Changbin.
The world outside didn’t exist. Even the ache of old heartbreak faded until all you could remember was the way he looked at you, like you were the only thing that mattered.
You gripped him harder, hips desperate as you clung to every dragging thrust, every patient, hungry roll of his body beneath you.
He met your gaze, breath ragged and eyes blown wide with awe and longing, every inch of him focused on you. Your thighs shook as you rocked down, the slick heat between your bodies building with every sweet friction, every whispered gasp of your name.
Changbin’s hands trembled on your waist, grounding and greedy, pulling you in until you could barely breathe for how close he kept you.
You felt the world narrow, spinning white-hot and dizzy, as you chased the edge together. Changbin’s lips crashed to yours, wild and tender all at once, and the way he moaned into your mouth made your toes curl and your heart stutter.
When you finally fell, you tumbled together, clinging, bodies shuddering in perfect sync. Changbin held you so tight you thought you might disappear into him, his mouth whispering broken, adoring nonsense against your skin as you shook through it, both of you wrecked, undone, and completely lost in each other.
You stayed there like that, collapsed into each other, the blanket tangled around your waist and the world slowed to a hush.
Changbin’s arms anchored you, his hands splayed wide against your bare back, strong and steady even though his breath was still shuddering in your ear. You didn’t move—not for a long while. You just let yourself be held, your cheek pressed to his shoulder, your heartbeat thundering like it would never settle.
Neither of you spoke. There wasn’t anything left to say, not when his thumb stroked slow circles between your shoulder blades, not when his lips brushed the top of your head over and over. His heart, you realized, was pounding wild beneath your palm. Maybe he was just as dizzy as you were.
You let out a soft little laugh, stunned and a bit breathless. The sound made Changbin’s arms tighten, gently, like he was afraid you might dissolve if he let go.
“Are you okay?” His voice was a rasp, nothing like the gentle, easy tone he used before, and you figured maybe you’d broken him a little, too.
You nodded, your hair falling around his face as you lifted your head. Your nose brushed his and it made you both laugh, a quiet kind of hysterical, like you couldn’t believe that all of that just happened.
“Hey,” he murmured, nose brushing yours again. His breath was still uneven. “For the record… I’d eat ice cream with you in the snow every day, if it meant I got to have you like this after.”
You snorted out a laugh, completely wrecked and happy, and felt your cheeks flush hot. “That’s so cheesy,” you said, but the sound of your voice was embarrassingly sweet, soft with affection you could never have hidden, even if you tried. You pressed your forehead to his, breathing him in, grounding yourself in the safe little world you’d built together.
