this is how you remind me - shim changmin x oc
Changmin stretches above the settee, flipping to the next page of his recent literary conquest, lost in the gripping narration of an emerging well-fought battle between a man and a Berserker. He grunts in approval when the fatal blow is delivered and the beast succumbs to the thirst for blood, roaring as he delves into the throng of bodies once more to fight for the kidnapped woman whose fate is still unrevealed at this point of the story.
Rain pelts the palace roofs, muffled to a steady humdrum that combined with the telling of the book casts him oblivious to the sound of his chamber doors allowing the entrance of a booted figure. He flips to another page, still unware until the settee dips with the weight of another person and he’s pulled back to the present, a smile quickly replacing his previous concentrated frown. The figure looms over him from the top of his book and a soft Hello passes those parted lips.
He lays the book forgotten on the floor then, filling his hands with the softness of the backs of her thighs, pulling her for a closer straddle. There’s a hum and sigh when they find the perfect fit, and he relishes the way she slowly drapes over him – soft and willing and warm – that his smile grows a little wider.
You are shirking your duties, my King.
But his hand slips further up, seeking for the opening that would lead to the smooth expanse of her back where he eventually trails his fingers and Changmin says, Maybe, thinking she’s not close to minding when her own are playfully tracing upwards her neck and over the angle of his jaw.
And are you not doing the same, my dear Lord Commander?
She’d angled by him just enough that a tilt of her head sends the warm tingle of breath against his skin; a second later her lips find purchase on the spot just below his ear. He hums something low and swallows, hips shifting below her in a delicious rub of hard against soft. She does it again, a little longer, a little more stimulating and Changmin’s momentarily lost.
My duty is to protect the king.
More like provoking now, he mutters to her amusement. His face crunches obligingly when she taps his nose but the usual retaliation is foregone in preference of fingers threading through the silk of her hair. I have missed you.
It’s her smile that tells him his words are not unwelcome, nor were they wrong to be declared in the first place. Changmin finds he likes how that expression leaves a thrum of thrill in him every time. It’s rare when the lord commander of the king’s guard would smile so obligingly, and there’s almost a sense of perverse satisfaction when he realizes there’s not been a need to coax her into smiling when they’re together. She just lights up. Like he does.
Don’t send me so far away next time then.
I won’t, he punctuates the promise with an affectionate squeeze to her side. He shifts, pulling at the back of her knees to keep her in place. Or I should go with you.
Your people would be delighted to see the King among them.
Truth is, the goal of this conversation is to have you satisfied of my company, my love. And to that she laughs, toying with the material of his shirt while she nods.
Forgive me if I have offended.
Yes, you have. Very much so. But he’s grinning and tilting her chin, face drawn closer until he could whisper against her lips Now take responsibility and claim her in a heated kiss.
Her palms splay over his chest, fisting on his shirt as he slides a hand back to her nape to hold her captive to his ministrations. It’s a languid exchange, as if there’s not a world waiting for them outside the chamber doors, no hierarchy and judgement that would mar the beauty of this when their relationship comes to light. His thumb brushes over her collarbone and she presses closer than close, fingers tugging at his hair with a sound from the back of her throat. Changmin hardens from beneath and this time they’re both moaning.
It’s her who pulls away, albeit reluctantly, and he resolves the predicament with the contact of his forehead against hers. They are both smiling, breathless, and still wanting but this has yet to be the time and place. He should have been in bed, he belatedly thinks. But anyone could have come to interrupt – least of his desires after so long a time without her. They would have to be content to just this for now.
I have missed you too, she whispers. He decides that deserves a kiss in answer and proceeds to do so. This time it’s a little hungrier, longer, but it’s still she who places the needed distance between them. He groans expectedly at the silent admonishment. Her soft, Later, my King is enough to tame his desire.
There’s still a few safe minutes before anyone comes looking for either of them. He slides back onto the settee, careful not to let her fall in the same way that she trusts him to keep her safe. Soon they find their perfect fit again. She listens to his breathing and he leans down to kiss the top of her head.
They eventually fall to a kind of sleep, lulled by the presence of the other. It’s here where they allow themselves to forget – where one is neither king or lord commander.
They’re just Changmin and Jiwon and warmth reigns, along with love and the sound of rain.
a/n: it’s been suggested that i see Changmin in a different light - far from the little brother figure i’ve always associated him into. this is a first step to that effort. please be patient. haha.
