CHAOS is now Double Cross

Chaos is now going to be published under the title Double Cross! It was a difficult decision, but I think a title change will serve the comic well. The old name was outdated, ill-fitting, and nigh un-google-able. Hopefully this change of label will be a change for the good.

What this means:

This tumblr also has a new name! This place will still be updating with new pages and artwork.

You can now find all Doublecross-related shenanigans under the #doublecross comic tag.

The comic will be hosted at a new link-- but don't worry, the old link will still serve as a redirect notice for the time being, so you can update your bookmarks at your leisure.

There are new icons and banners and such just, all over the place, but I'm still in the process of updating those, so bear with me for a couple days and let me know if I miss anything.

Thanks a bunch to everybody for continuing to read along! There's a new page on the way. Hope this isn't too weird for all y'all, and thanks for your patience.

Wowie, an update!

Sorry for the terrible schedule as of late. I've been having tablet problems, and the Update Whenever schedule may have to continue for a while. Thanks for sticking with me!

"Beautiful art, love the tinted cel shading! However, kind of uncomfortable that he was only a hard-ass to the black guy, who is named the most stereotypically black name ever? I know Tyrone kneed his nose, but.. ehhh..."

I got this comment on a Chaos page today, and I'm trying to think on how to respond to it. It brings up some thoughts I've had recently about how we view fiction through a social justice lens and how we respond to it, but I'm not sure if it would be appropriate to use a comment on my own webcomic as a springboard for that discussion.

Any thoughts?

edit: I went with this, as a response:

"Representing POC equally in my story is something that I care about, so I'm sorry that you find this particular interaction unsavory. I try to include a lot of POC in my comic, but since it's a comic that generally centers around criminals, it stands to reason that lot of bad things happen to a lot of people, both white and POC alike. Does that make sense?"

I could go into all the different ways that POC peeps show up in my comic but. writing about people who aren't white isn't exactly some feat of creative ingenuity and I don't feel like pointing out every instance of it like I'm expecting a gold star for my blessed efforts. also I don't think Duane being mean to a black person once needs that much justification.

if I do something that is straight-up not cool with how I portray different characters in my story, though, please call me out on it. I do care about whether I'm supporting nasty stereotypes, but I'm not always the best at avoiding it, and I need all y'all to let me know when I screw up so I can learn!!

New page is up!

Sorry for the lack of an update last week! I was hella sick and just couldn't get it done on time. Also, we're currently stuck in Old Page Limbo. My hiatus during last semester means that I'm now stuck finishing up buffer pages that are months old. What I'm putting out now is way below the quality of what I want to be putting out, and it's a huge frustration! I want to be delivering the best content that I can to you rad folks who read my goofy comic, so I'm going to work hard to fix that as soon as humanly possible.

tl;dr: Comics are rough right now, so thanks for bearing with me while I finish up these old pages.

Duckie commissioned me for a couple of art cards for Slimm of some of his webcomic dudes, and I decided to throw in a third for free because if Slimm hadn't started his comic, I probably wouldn't have had the push to start mine.

Duane and Marco are in the card protectors, that's why Duane in particular is shiny. Jimmy Jones got one too, but I think when I took this photo, the ink/paint was still drying.
