I've been working at a plant nursery for about 2 months now and it's been interesting??? I am still not sure what I am allowed and not allowed to do.

I got asked to go help out another location cover cashier.

The asst manager from the other store is now the manager at the store I work at.

The other location has a VERY cross trained crew, which is both a blessing and a curse. They could do a LOT of things but some things should be red taped.

My store is NOT cross trained. IN FACT only like 1-2 cashiers know how to do everything.

I've been there for 2 months, I don't work full time, or even part time... Like 1-2 shifts a week part time. I'm not sure how I should know everything™ about this job in that span of time. (I also was hired initially during their busy season so I was stationed at the register and only NOW am expected to do other things outside of that but we are a SKELETON crew which means less people to cover so I can learn, yaaaay)

Some days at work are FINE and I learn a new thing. Other days I want to cry because as much as it's frustrating for the manager that I'm not trained, imagine how frustrated I am not knowing what I'm doing. anyway- I'm hanging in there. It's a job. It's not NEARLY as soul sucking as the bank job, and the customers 80% of the time are super sweet and some of the coworkers I like working with.

There's been more development. One person has quit because of the new change in management. The asst manager has only been there and an assistant manager since February, and the store had NO MANAGEMENT before she came, so this location has been in chaos for a while now. I've gotten more hours because I have proven I come in, and they cashier part of my job seems to be my main spot, which is nice. they keep hinting at me becoming bedding manager, but I don't know enough about plants in this area to feel confident in that, and i don't wanna get involved so deeply that when we do leave they are back at the same spot. Hahahaha so yeah. that's... the update??? I'm still hanging in there. 3 months in!

ok but this unironically works. talk about how the working class is exploited and you can basically sell full-on marxism to your average republican if you do it right. all you have to do is avoid the words "Marx," "capitalism," "socialism," "communism," "means of production," etc - just use synonyms. say "big business" or "corporate shareholder interests" instead of "capitalists." say "a government that prioritizes the needs of the working people" instead of "socialism." it WORKS. I've DONE it. the hardest sell are usually things like social and racial equity, welfare, things like that, because people have been primed with the racist/classist idea that those things are somehow unfair - but you can get your foot in the door to getting them to buy into those too if you start with class issues. read up on your theory, make sure you REALLY understand your own ideology, because that will enable you to reword it and successfully sell it.

In my experience, you can often help sell 'welfare' stuff by appealing to self-interest with a touch of Aren't We Great.

Disability benefits: "I mean, sure, there are probably some sad sacks who are gaming the system, there always are, but hell, with the amount of taxes we pay, the government can afford a few freeloaders, right? I'd rather pay for a couple people who don't really need it than not have the system at all for if I need it, or my kids do, or whatever. I mean shit happens. What if some asshole drunk driver puts me in the hospital and it takes me a year to get back on my feet? Or Heaven forbid something permanent happens. I'll sure be glad that I can get disability then, won't I?"

UBI: "I dunno, the kind of guy who'll just sit on the couch playing Call of Duty all day if he doesn't have to work, I kinda don't want him on my job site anyway. That type is just taking up a place that you could fill with someone who'll actually get the job done, you know? we used to get christmas episodes of television. halloween episodes. valentines. we used to get television that felt like part of your life. like it was happening alongside your life. now we mostly get 8 episodes dropping all at once every two years and they don't have time for any of that. i miss characters living alongside us
