I’ve been practicing animation a bit, and thought why not share this lil boi. Im still pretty new to it, so any advice is welcome. ^^ For now im just doing simple animation exercises, trying to get myself more familiar with that part of the program as well as the overall understanding of the principles.
final playblast of a character jumping over a gap, this time with exaggeration added. a more realistic style was the aim here, so minimal squash and stretch was added, most noticeably in the actual jump movement.
blocking pass of a character rig jumping over a gap.
to be honest, i find it easier to animate without the blocking pass. but that’s just me.

Week 7 - Character Jump Blocking Pass
To be honest I don't use the tangent stepped method as much for blocking, BUT this exercise has really made me think otherwise haha. In this blocking pass, I’ve heard that its better to do a detailed blocking pass to minimise polishing time, which is what I’ve done here.
However, because of that, it led me to polish it straight away without achieving the goal of the exercise: Exaggeration in animation style - realistic superhuman or stylised cartoon look.
So for this version I just animated what I saw including details such as the curve of the spine, the takeoff and landing of the feet & how the hips move away from the centre of gravity to create a balanced and realistic movement.
I’ll post the next exaggerated iteration in the next post :)
#13 Character jumping over a gap didnt manage to finish in an hour :/
