There was something about her.
About the way she wore her hair, her clothes.
The way her eyes sparkled in the sun, or lit up when she laughed.
The way you could be having one of the worst days of your life, but one smile from her and it healed you.
You loved her.
You knew you did, you'd always known.
She was perfect. In every sense of the word.
She found you. She made you. You would be no-one without her.
Nothing would compare to that day.
The day she kissed you.
You were sat on the roof together, drinking and laughing.
You made jokes about the people below you.
Then she turned to you, she took your face in her hands, and she kissed you.
Simple as that.
You wanted to talk to her about it.
You never did.
Not until the day you sat by her hospital bed as she nearly died and you poured your soul out to her.
She wasn't asleep.
You always thought nothing would compare to the day she kissed you.
But one day did.
The day she asked you to marry her.
-
I saw how she looked at me.
How she stared at my hair, at my clothes.
She thought she was subtle.
She wasn't.
I saw her face when I smiled, she practically melted.
She thought I was perfect.
She always told me I was.
I never believed her.
I don't know why I did it.
She was just there, laughing.
I was drunk.
And I kissed her.
I don't regret it.
We didn't talk about it.
I don't think she remembered.
I nearly died.
She was there.
She told me everything.
Now we're getting married.
And she's perfect.
And so am I.
-
She always looked at her.
And never me.
I get why.
I mean she was beautiful.
Her hair.
Her clothes.
Her eyes.
She was that perfect person, everyone loved her.
Some more than others.
I saw them that day.
The day they always talked about.
Their first kiss.
I was on the pavement.
I looked up.
I wish I hadn't.
They avoided each other after.
Until the accident.
After that everything changed.
They were always together.
They're getting married now.
Why did she never look at me?
-
She obsessed over her.
I get it.
She loved her.
She was sad.
But did she never notice me?
Notice me watching her, pining over her?
Everyone else did.
I didn't try to hide it.
If she'd asked I wouldn't deny it.
But she never asked.
She came crying to me that night.
Crying over their kiss.
I held her in my arms as she sobbed.
It broke me.
That was the day I realised she wouldn't ever see me.
Then, the accident.
After that she was always crying in my arms.
To anyone else it would look like a relationship.
I went to their wedding.
She finally looked at me, and I saw something change.
She looked at me differently.
-
Why were they all like this.
All pining over people.
I don't understand it.
Why don't I feel that way?
I want to feel it.
At least I think I do.
I just want my friends back.
I feel like I lost them to love, as silly as that sounds.
I saw her that day.
When they kissed for the first time.
She was heartbroken.
I guess I understand.
That's what she wanted, and someone else got it.
I guess I understand...
I don't understand.
Will I ever?
Then came the accident, when everything collided.
It was.. awful.
I was at their wedding.
The thought of me in their place left a sour taste in my mouth.
I don't ever want to fall in love.

Stagnant … Generative
“But those who wait for the Lord’s help find renewed strength; they rise up as if they had eagles’ wings, they run without growing weary, they walk without getting tired.” Isa 40:31NET
Recently, I came across two new Christian phrases, “stagnant senior Christians,” and “generative senior Christians.” Here are the definitions:
**Stagnant Senior Christian—The complaining elder Christian, who sits on ‘their pew.’ If things don’t go ‘their way,’ they threaten to take ‘their money’ out of ‘their church.’ Daily, they tell how much ‘they’ve done’ for everyone and the church. Now, they’ve acquired retirement with a— feed me mentality. Usually, they’re more harm to the kingdom of God, than help.
**Generative Senior Christian— This elder Christian has worked “some” in the church, all of their lives. Now they’re retired from careers. Having been forced to work for a living all those years, they finally have time to work full time for Jesus. They’re useful in many fields of the church, especially in discipling younger generations and new converts.
As I’ve meditated upon this concept, I realize— I don’t ever want to be a useless old person, just as I never wanted to be a useless young person. My prayer is, was, and will be, ‘If I’m of no earthly good to You Jesus, get me out of here!”
Something to consider— You don’t have to be a senior aged person to be a “stagnant” Christian. Stagnant per online dictionary is: “not flowing or running” —“stale or foul from standing” —“characterized by lack of development, advancement, or progressive movement” —“inactive, sluggish, or dull.”
This stagnant Christian is usually characterized as someone who takes up space, never grows, absorbs but has no outflow. Zig Ziglar said in a seminar I attended— Impression without Expression leads to Depression. Most stagnant Christians are depressed and think they need to be coddled by everyone.
Generative Christians, irregardless of the age, are characterized by the definition of the word “Generative: — “capable of producing or creating” —“pertaining to the production of offspring.” In other words, they grow other Christians.
Two ladies, whom I dearly love, are slightly older than I. These ladies are fun, funny, and busy! They work for Jesus: leading and co-ordinating fellowship groups within their church; teaching Sunday School classes; leading Bible study and workshops; working at the Christian television station; leading Bible studies at the local Teen Challenge Center; discipling and encouraging younger Christians. My friends fall under the heading of ‘generative senior Christians.’
Our text says of the generative Christians, who’ve been working for the Lord, “find renewed strength; they rise up… they run… they walk without getting tired.” God puts the spring into your steps.
Psalmist David wrote a regenerating scripture for the generative Christian about our strong God who cares for His servants: “Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion; Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.” Psm 103:3-5NASB.
Which type of Christian are you? It’s your choice. You choose.
PRAYER: Almighty God, thank You for loving us when we were stagnant or while we’re generative. Help all those who are stagnant to get over themselves and start flowing with service to the King in Jesus’ name I pray.
