The outcome of mutual appreciation for each other’s craft, Caroline Polachek of Chairlift and Ramona Lisa, is the latest collaborator in a series of oddball sounds from PC Music’s catalog with her appearance on Danny L. Harle’s “Ashes of Love”. With its scaling keys and drainpipe synths sucking everything into a spiral of rave leads, “Ashes of Love” is kitschy-cool resonating through the quirk of Polachek’s artificially over-sweetened voice. While Caroline recalled the track as something that reminded her of misspent youth listening to “happy hardcore and trance” when she hung out with “crew(s) of boys who tuned cars for street racing", for Harle it was Caroline’s “organic, distorted symmetry” which appears so readily on the track that drew him to the collaboration.
