“The thing is, when dealing with someone with experience in unconventional magics, particularly anyone experienced with Dark arts. You have to be aware of far more than just a wand,” Charlus smiled, as he pointed at the rune in his hand, showing it off to the small class of students in front of him. He’d agreed to tutor those interested in a few lessons from him, since his return from the Veil, putting knowledge he’d learned as unspeakable and on the other side of Death to work.
And the rune activated, as he pointed to it. Freezing them all in place, capturing their wills with the magic he’d stored there. They were conscious, but they couldn’t make a decision, until he released them. He held his hand out, and continued on. “You see, there’s many ways to entrap a witch or wizard, beyond the Imperius curse. That’s simply the most expedient. I’ve arrested your will. It hardly gives me control of you, but it leaves you open. Suggestible. And this enchantment can be laid in runes, set as a trap, all sorts of things.”
As he started to walk, he noticed one of the students who was twitching, and smiled at them. “Aren’t you interesting. Have you had experience under an Imperius curse before? Most don’t have nearly the will to so much as move,” he asked, curiously. After a moment, he released their will just enough so they could speak, though nothing else. “Forgive me, you may talk, now.”
