hi me again, would love to hear your many thoughts on the rina scene you last giffed (where they look at each other during wouldn’t change a thing) cause i wasn’t really sure how to take that moment
hiiiiii ofc ofc, it's truly a cinematic moment & i do have many thoughts but they're not necessarily all coherent so i'll try my best to lay them out skdjfhskdf on gina's side i think it's a bit more about realizing where she stands with ej at first, bc like she says in the breakup speech, they're having two different summers, and you can see that with the way gina ultimately just wanted one dance with her boyfriend that day — approx 3 minutes of his day — but he was too busy to remember/make that time for her. and that's what kind of pushes her over the edge in regards to wanting to end it. which side note, i'm really confused about this whole gina's being unreasonable narrative bc what's the point of being in a relationship if all it is is a title? like if, as she said, ej’s been ignoring her and not putting any effort in, isn’t that all it is? but anyways, that's a whole other thing, back to our topic sdjsdfhsjdf so she's looking for ej and realizing that he broke his promise & he's not there, but ricky is. and the fact that ricky's already looking at her... he's so in love i'm gonna cry. but ANYWAYS. he would do anything to make her smile, so he does his cute little dance but gina doesn't really respond to that. and idk for sure what's going on inside his head, but i think he could once again be thinking about how he let her slip through his fingers, and that he isn't the one that she wants. he's not enough to put a smile on her face this time. on a smaller degree, he could be kicking himself for not responding to her asking to dance earlier in the night kdfjsdfk BUT gina does respond to him, subtly. she smiles the sliiightest bit, and i think she has this moment of realization here. everything regarding her relationship is kind of crashing down on her, but there ricky is, trying to make her smile. like he has been this whole summer. he's proven that he's the guy that shows up and he's gonna stay around. and i think this is the moment where her feelings start to resurface a bit. the line over ricky's dance being 'you’re the harmony to every song I sing' feels pretty intentional idk kjdsfhskdf but yeah. to sum it all up, i would say this was a pretty pivotal moment for gina, with her realizing she has to end things with ej & realizing that ricky's the one that's consistently been there for her
