Vegan friendly cendol, my new favourite dessert 🤯
Malacca's delicacies 🍽 1. Ice chendol 🍧 best thing on a hot day ☀️ 2. Mini freshly cut pineapple 🍍 3. My favorite childhood snack actually has a biscuit version! Tasty seaweed flavor 🍪 4. Coconut shake 🍨 another must-try local dessert 5. Gula ketuk 🤔 not a fan of peppermint so... 6. Ramadhan edition McDonalds' chendol sundae. Not sure where the advertised chendol or pandan flavor comes in but it's so tasty I might go for second 🍦
Today’s dinner is at Astons Specialities in Sembawang Shopping Centre. Mum’s Crispy Fried Fish (S$11.50++) with potato wedges and tasty rice. Mum was complaining that her fish came with almost half of its bread crumble coating gone.
I picked the Double Up Chicken (S$16++) and chose one each of the black pepper and crispy fried chicken. For the sides, I had garden veggies and potato wedges. My chicken is kind of over fried but is still pretty edible. Whoever the chef is today did not put in his heart and soul into preparing the food.
After dinner, we bought home a couple of pieces of the Chendol Agar Agar (S$1.50 each). Each triangle slice came with three layers – coconut milk & green rice flour jellies at the bottom, coconut milk, gula melaka & red beans at the centre and palm sugar agar agar on top. Overall, it is not too sweet with fragrance of coconut milk and gula melaka coupled with texture of red beans in every bite.

Normally for us, we will order the Satays (沙爹) first then proceed to the dessert stall since the former will takes some time to be ready. Surprisingly, our order of mutton 🐑 and pork 🐖 satays (S$0.70 per skewer) were served to us in less than 10 minutes! Pick up a stick of pork satay and a cube of the Ketupat (rice cake in woven palm leaf pouch) to dip into the savoury sweet Peanut 🥜 Sauce. Yum, delicious…
By the time we consumed the cold desserts, the ice shaving had mostly melted in our typical warm and humid Singapore weather. I had Chendol (Cendol), an iced sweet dessert that contains droplets of green rice flour jelly, coconut milk and palm sugar syrup with a variety of toppings. Mum custom order her Aiyu Jelly with added green rice flour jelly and red bean. 🫘
Magnolia just released a limited edition Brown Sugar & Sea Salt Flavoured Milk (S$4.50 for 1L carton) that blends Magnolia Fresh Milk with the robust brown sugar fragrance and a hint of sea salt to create the perfect balance unlike any other. What’s more, it’s made with natural ingredients, high in calcium, low-fat and low in sugar. The product has also been awarded with the Healthier Choice Symbol by the Health Promotion Board. Now for the taste test. This luscious cup of milk actually tasted like Chendol and level of sweetness is just right, not too saccharine for me.
