Charles Xavier had wanted to be on the ocean as far back as he could remember. He could remember toddling toward the shipyards as an infant, being snatched away by scolding parents just before he could touch the gleaming vessels. As he grew older, his attention never wavered from the prospect of living life on the seas. At twenty-one years of age, Charles and his ship had its first run-in with pirates, and he saw fit to protect his title and vessel as fiercely as he knew how.

Aka: a one-shot of Erik the pirate trying to ransom Charles the captain, but finding that Charles is a little hard not to get attached to.

“Cucumber should be well sliced, dressed with pepper and vinegar and then thrown out!” bc cucumber is gross 98% of the time. Cherik probably.

“What the hell is that?“

Charles looks up from his sandwich and smiles, face brightening, “Hello, Erik. Having a good afternoon?”

Erik ignores both the question and Charles’ breathtaking smile in order to keep his disgust evident on his face, “What is that?”

“A sandwich,“ Charles answers simply, “Why is it offending you so deeply?“

The sandwich in question is cream cheese on toast with cucumber gently layered on top. It’s an abomination, an offence to mutant kind. If it was made of metal Erik would have gotten rid of it by now.

“There’s cucumbers on it.“ Erik motions to the sandwich with his right hand, “It’s ruining perfectly good toast and cream cheese.“

Charles rolls his eyes, “I beg to differ, this is the best use of cucumbers.“ He gently places the top piece of toast on the monstrosity and cuts it into triangles with his plastic knife. 

Further offense is taken from the sandwich.

Erik grimaces as Charles takes a bite, “The only way cucumber should be prepares is well sliced, dressed with pepper and vinegar, then thrown out.“

Charles snorts, taken off guard, choking on a piece of the sandwich.

“See, it’s killing you.“ Erik pats Charles on the back until the coughing subsides, “Cucumbers are an offense to all vegetables.“

“Don’t be so dramatic,” Charles says, standing up straighter with his newly found breath. He picks up his plate and glass of water, “The fact that you don’t like cucumbers shows lack of cuisine culture on your part.“

Erik folds his arms over his chest and watches as Charles readies to leave, “Eat enough cucumber and you could give yourself cyanide poisoning.“ He knows it’s not true, but it’s another strike against the cucumber.

“Eat enough anything and you’ll die, darling.“ Charles says, a verbal wave off, “I’ll be enjoying my delicious sandwich on the terrace if you want to join me.“

A grimace, “Perhaps when you’re done eating.“

Charles presses a mental kiss to his cheek, “Suit yourself.“ Then leaves.

Erik gives Charles a moment until he’s out of earshot before setting off to the fridge.

No cucumber shall survive Erik’s disgust.

A Year From Now, We’ll All Be Gone

Just a snippet from my AO3 fic where Charles and Erik are trapped in Shaw’s ‘School for Young Mutants.’

Erik stopped outside his doorway and glanced in through the little window on the door. Twelve was inside and was sitting up despite the late hour, his eyes shut and hands palm-up on his knees. Meditating? A flicker of scorn in Erik’s mind- how could meditation do anything- but he didn’t speak, merely continued to take the sight in. He had the lights on, the bright fluorescents illuminating bright red spots on his cheek and arms, but Erik didn’t see any blood.

It wasn’t surprising. Shaw had been on a burn-and-electrocution kick for a month or two now. It provided equal pain but with less likelihood of death. It certainly wasn’t fun- your muscles tended to shiver and jerk randomly for a few hours after, but it was far less horrific than some things had been, and they were tolerable. He knew that, so why did the brightness of the burns against all that pale skin bother him so much? Twelve would go through much worse, as Erik had. He could handle it, he had to. This wasn’t even that bad… but it bothered him regardless. The same way it had always bothered him whenever anything hurt Eleven.

Which was ridiculous, because he’d known her longer, and she was delicate and breakable and this boy was… was…

Well, beautiful. Erik watched him for a long moment, finding himself oddly and reluctantly soothed by the slow movement of Twelve’s chest, his unbelievable eyes just barely flickering under their lids, hidden for the moment. Erik allowed himself to study the other boy's face; all delicate features, softness and warmth and sweetness, even when he was just sitting there. Uncomfortably, Erik thought of his own sharp face, the smile people had told him reminded him of a shark, all hardness and sharpness and danger. The opposite of this beautiful, soft boy with the warm azure eyes and wildly curling and appealing hair.
