“I hope your favorite character dies” is nothing. “I hope your favorite character is written once in a silly lighthearted way that is initially fun if vaguely out of character but is instantly picked up as industry standard and this character that used to be filled with rage and longing is now only used as comedic relief and is often described as ‘bright and bubbly’” is possible. it’s happened. it’s terrifying
comics nowadays are like “if we don’t tell the audience exactly what’s going on character wise how are they supposed to empathize with & never have bad feelings about a character. also if this character doesn’t know every single one of their own flaws how can they be self aware about them in a way that is #relatable to the people” take them out of therapy I swear to god I’ll kill us both
The Flash (1987) #34
*guy who got enough love in his childhood voice* I'm about to be so normal about my dead mentor slash father figure during this hallucination sequence
in my ideal world there was a second yj98 spinoff comic that ran in 2003 called "saint elias" that is gotham academy-esque and followed the adventures of newly-humanified greta and recently-retired anita as they joined saint elias school for girls alongside cissie and traya
I am definitely going to be posting more about this >:) potentially even with a fic series if I can get my shit together heart emoji
(reblogs are much loved and help other people see my art!)
Batman and Robin (2009) #17-22
I feel like more people need to remember that at the end of the day damian is just your average incredibly annoying 10 year old
so with @radioactive-earthshine I have begun to set up the comic mentorship program !! it's DC-specific for right now, so if you are wanting to get into marvel comics, this may not be the place for you at this moment </3 we have a discord server, so if you are interested in joining please start by filling out this google form (also linked below).
to recap what this is: if you are very brand new to comics and looking for one to one help and mentorship, or if you are very dedicated to comics and you would love to help people learn more about your area of comics--sign up to be a mentor or a mentee (or both, for different areas of comics) !!
hear ye, hear ye! if you are someone who desperately wants to get into dc comics for the first time, or has been living off of fanon and wan
Huntress/Spoiler: Blunt Trauma
tim being the common factor bt helena & steph is really interesting despite how dixon writes it (these girls are NOT passing the bechdel test) because steph is so desperate for belonging & approval that she will do anything tim tells her to but steph is also in awe of / jealous of helena who despite her relationship with tim continues to work in her own way with her own morals and that sense of individuality and identity is something steph can never achieve. steph creates one identity for her dad and while she wears it she can never quite shake the shadow of him but the other identities she assumes are just hopping through other people's shoes as they are handed to her. helena on the other hand created her own identity and when the time was right she became batman by force without permission and without hesitating for even a second because she doesn't need to belong & she never has. fascinating
