Sorry babe, the Transtape stays ON during sex
A quiet moment.
I recently started taping instead if binding and it's unbelievably gender affirming like what the fuck it's amazing.
I don't even really mean the flattening affect because of course that's gender affirming if I want a flat chest (which I do) I mean just like. How it looks. I love my trans identity, I love my queer identity. And this just makes me REALLY feel trans. It makes me feel completely and truly connected with my community and the people before me. I don't know. I love it.
Because also I've never really hated my overall body shape, I quite like it. I often feel more affirmed looking at my naked torso than with a binder or bra because I genuinely like my shape and it's gender affirming for me, it's just that my chest looks a teeny bit off. It just looks like it shouldn't be there, while a bra or binder feels even more off putting to me because wearing something to cover it feels weird, it feels like it should just be bare.
And taping feels that way. Yes technically it's covering a part of my chest but it's also out and open. I feel like I can have my shirt off and be comfortable and I WANT to look at myself. I feel sexy and I feel desirable.
God I love tape this feels wonderful.
This is my self-care ☀️🦎
tips and tricks for binding with tape, in no particular order:
multiple strips often helps keep a tight bind. i like one strip to hold my breast tissue in place, and one strip to compress it.
your bind will loosen over the course of the week. you can put a new strip over to tighten it or extend your taping life by a few days, but that one will peel back more quickly since it's adhering to tape rather than to skin. this really will only work for another 2-3 days at most, and should only be used if you need a tight bind in the next few days but you forgot to take your old tape off and can't let your skin rest enough.
get a good unscented moisturizer that will not sting cut skin, since you will have scrapes and tears under the tape, and your skin will need moisturizing. after taking off the tape, use an exfoliating product and liberally moisturize. there will be a lot of gross dead skin trapped under the tape, and the skin underneath it will be dry. clean super thoroughly when you don't have tape on!
every time you're in the shower, scrub off the stickies on your skin around the tape. if you don't have tape on, scrub in the area to remove leftover stickies and moisturize. plain body soap helps with pilling and removing stickies, but hot water and a little pressure do the most.
get a "sticky bra" that is a very soft, not-too-tight (sports) bra for the day after you take tape off. it is called the sticky bra because no matter how hard you try to wash all the sticky bits off your chest, there will be more, and they will get all over whatever clothes they are in proximity with. get a sticky bra. after 1-2 days of sticky bra you can switch back to either a normal bra or re-tape. wash the sticky bra in a lingerie bag so that the stickies do not get on your other clothes.
also, get "sticky scissors" that are only for cutting your tape, and keep them with the roll of tape. small, sharp scissors are best. nail scissors and fabric scissors are both pretty good for this, but pretty much any pair of non-safety scissors will do the job.
do not tape if you have any pimples or sore spots on your breasts. you will regret it. the skin cannot air out when it's bound, and the tape will hurt coming back off.
if you have disposable nipple covers, they will come off with the tape. just throw the whole wad away. if you have reusable ones, they will often also come off with the tape, and then you have to peel them off and wash them to get the stickiness and dead skin off. they don't really adhere to skin, you just have to place them in the right spot. disposable covers are easier and more reliable, although more expense in the long run.
get the correct size of nipple covers. too big is better than too small, since pulling tape off the areola hurts, but too big covers will not stick nicely to your chest.
sizing applies less strictly for tape. if you have a small breast size, you may be tempted to get a small width of tape, but a larger one can actually compress more reliably since one strip can cover your whole breast. vice versa for larger breasts: you don't need the largest tape size; a smaller one might be more comfortable depending on how you bind. try a couple different sizes and see which ones work best!
round the corners off. always. if you don't, the edges of the tape will catch on everything and rip off, and it will hurt.
right after applying, massage the tape to warm it up so it adheres better. for the first 24 hours or so, keep smoothing the tape down--especially in the stretched places, it may peel back up or roll in on itself, and this can be undone if it's caught early.
your bind will never be even. ever. no matter how hard you try. you will probably have a "good side" and a "bad side". (much like doing makeup, it's easier on one side than the other.) it's okay. nobody has a perfectly symmetrical chest.
it is cold without a bra or binder on. wear layered shirts or bring an extra layer with you. my go-to is a long sleeve shirt tucked in for extra compression, then a t shirt or short sleeve button-up on top of that. this maximizes binding and temperature.
on the other hand, in the summer when multiple layers is too hot, taping feels great for temperature but can be bad for dysphoria. especially as the bind starts to loosen, you might feel like your chest is super visible. mostly people will not notice at all. but to help with that dysphoria, wear a t shirt with lots of graphics/patterns, something not super soft so it doesn't stick to your chest, or something you can tuck in and create some bag near your stomach.
To my own surprise, I’m obsessed with a fun patterned short sleeve button up 🤓😂
Before I started to “Butch out” I avoided wearing anything eye catching. I always felt a bit awkward in the things everyone else loved to wear. I was unhappy with my body and wore a lot of black to try and be invisible.
Allowing myself to become the exterior to reflect my interior is the best gift I could ever give to me. A few years ago, I discovered chest taping as an alternative to bras. I had stopped wearing bras around 2020 anyway but gained some weight and didn’t feel comfortable without anything. I also couldn’t wear a binder… just too sensory heavy for me. Taping was my solution and the side effect has felt like leveling up in my butchness 🖤
met a guy who said he was a d cup and tape worked for him, and it looked great! why tf does it look shit on me though..if you’re a d then i don’t even wanna know what i am😭
I got trans tape and it's life-changing!! I love it so much, I feel so happy, I feel like me, it's just amazing <3
That’s so awesome! Congratulations, I hope it continues to bring you more joy 🎊
