My sister is on #BookTok and I read some of the books she reads after she's done. Let me tell you, I do not understand the popularity of some books. I was going through some books to get rid of and I found "Postmortal" by Drew Magary and "Tender is The Flesh" by Agustina Bazterrica. Two books that were popular a few years ago, that were so uniquely terrible I just stopped reading books that were TikTok recommended. Thankfully both are very short quick reads, they sucked in their own unique ways, I won't get into it. I read plenty non-"sophisticated" and fun trashy novels, I just started "The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System" for fucks sake. I understand the appeal of a easy fun read, but after reading these sort of books I really don't get what it is that makes a book go 'viral.' It's not just the light and fun novels or the romantasy types that blow up, the only real pattern seems to be books that are 'easy' to read. I love that people are getting into reading, but please there are 'entry level' books that are good. Why, on gods green earth, is "Tender is The Flesh" more popular and widely read then something like, idk, "The Deep" by Nick Cutter? Not sure if that's a great example, but I'm not gonna claim I'm well read enough to make good recommendations eh.
yeah Set it Off is a Black classic for a reason
I’m really really wet right now :(
