Better is better than perfect.

Perfect policies don't exist. Perfect leaders are pure fantasy. Perfect choices aren't available.

If you expect or demand perfection, one of two things happen. 1. You will blind yourself to their faults. 2. You'll choose nothing.

The first option leads to religiously supporting flawed ideals, leaders, policies, etc, which inevitably don't deliver what you expect from them, leaving you desperately seeking another flawed thing to latch onto while your life and the world around you stagnates.

The latter is stagnation in and of itself, even as you stand up and rage against the imperfect options, venting your frustration at the flaws and failures. You get to feel righteous in your stagnation.

But nothing changes. Not you. Not the world. Not your home. Not your life.

Better is choosing harm-reduction because saving even just one life is worth the effort. Perfect is sacrificing a thousand lives to the existing harm because saving one life is just not enough.

Better is grabbing the vacuum and hunting dustbunnies from the corners for five minutes just to take the edge off the mess. Perfect is waiting until the motivation strikes, and you have the energy and the attention span, to properly vacuum the entire floor, as well as mop it, as well as put away all of the clutter, as well as take out the trash, as well as clean all the surfaces, etc, etc, all the while kicking yourself for living in filth, knowing full well that if you ever crack under the pressure and run yourself ragged cleaning the house you'll still not get everything and also leave yourself so exhausted that the mess will get just as bad, if not worse, before you break down and clean again.

This applies basically everywhere.

Better isn't perfect. Better isn't even "good".

Better is sometimes disappointing, often flawed. Better can be criticized for not being as good as it could be, should be. But it is Better.

Perfect locks us in cycles, keeps us sitting still, waiting for things that only exist as fantasies.

Better moves us forward, sometimes painfully slowly, but we are in motion none the less, and that's the only way we're ever going to get closer to perfect, even as perfect stays always out of reach.
