What..?
✘ For Sora | @chosen-light
After weeks of having to work non-stop due to the cafe's sudden growth in popularity (which he was still pretty sure was only due to the winter months) Riku had finally been able to put in a request for some much needed time off; without the possibility of it being rejected when their manager finally took pity on his small staff and hired a couple more people to help out at the cafe and ease some of the workload from them. And of course a day off of meant that he'd finally be able to sleep in a few more hours compared to when he was scheduled to work. So it was with a small groan that he hit the button to shut off his alarm clock that morning, for a moment cursing himself for having set the thing the previous night before crawling out of bed to get ready for the day. "Too cold," he muttered as he worked on getting dressed, glancing at the clock to see how much time he had left before he had to meet up with Sora. It was just as he was pulling on his jacket that he realized that the itch at the back of his throat wasn't going to go away no matter how many times he tried to clear it away. It would be just his luck that just as he finally managed to get some time off and spend some time with Sora for the first time in weeks that he’d somehow managed to get sick. With a shake of his head he made a quick stop in his kitchen to drink some water in an attempt to ease the dull ache, making a mental note to try and not get too close to Sora so he wouldn't get the other sick too and give the other teen a warning to keep his distance. The water helped to ease some of the itch so he figured he'd be fine for the time being, so long as he made sure to buy some medicine on his way home and set out to make his way to the mall. It came as no surprise to Riku that he was the first to arrive out of the two of them when he arrived at the front doors of the shopping center and instead resigned himself to wait for the shorter teen to arrive, no doubt running late.
After half an hour had passed with no sign of the younger teen, Riku wondered if he'd mixed up the days before distinctly remembering that that wasn't the case before the thought that Sora may have either forgotten to set his alarm or had slept through said alarm crossed his mind. Either way, it was clear that said teen wouldn't be making it to the shopping center anytime soon and made the split decision to call said teen. With luck, Sora was already rushing to make his way to the mall or he'd be waking the other teen up which would then prompt Sora's rush to meet up with Riku. Mind made up Riku pulled out his phone and made the call, clearing his throat again as the dull ache from earlier only seemed to of gotten more insistent. He silently hoped that it wouldn't develop into a cough just as Sora's voicemail answered his call; hanging up with a shake of his head he re-dialed the number sure that if he kept calling the other teen would eventually answer. "I swear Sora," he muttered as he hung up another call, ignoring the ache that only seemed to grow as the minutes ticked by, "if you're still sleeping, I'm making you-" he continued to say before he stopped as he sucked in a short breath, the need to cough overtaking anything else he may have said. And as expected, the pain followed the cough, turning the dull ache in his lungs and throat into one that couldn't be ignored even if he'd had the chance to try. He managed to cover his mouth to muffle the coughs just as whatever had been lodged in his throat finally broke free, past his lips and into his hand. 'What the hell..?' He thought as finally spitting out whatever had been stuck in his throat seemed to ease the pain somewhat only to be confused at the sight of what now clung to his palm.
