Me: *thinks about Scotty and Chekov for the first time in ages*
Me: *tears in eyes* I... I love them.
AU where Scotty is always flying because he's a big shot engineer needed at jobs all over the world and Pavel us a flight attendant that always seems to be working when he's flying and one of them starts to develop *gasp* feelings
Success is not always measured in degrees. Scotty spent most of his teenage years either too drunk or too hungover to really focus on school and college, and so he more or less stumbled into his engineering career. That’s where he finds his true passion, and he climbs the ladder of success rapidly. Pretty soon, his first flight is paid for him to fly from Scotland to London. Then, Italy, Germany, and France. Even Russia and Japan. It’s insane, and it blows Scotty’s mind every time he has the spare time to think about how his life has turned out to be.
“Whiskey, sir?” His flight attendant asks, and Scotty looks up from the plane’s window to the next to him. There’s a sense of youthfulness over this kid, even though he must be over eighteen to even work here. And he looks surprisingly good in a fancy red button-up shirt. “Oh, aye. Thank you,” Scotty says, watching him pour a glass - over ice, even. First class is ridiculous. “Have I seen you before?” Scotty asks eventually, because he definitely looks familiar. “Da, yes,” Chekov replies, accent thick on his tongue, “we flew to Tokyo together two months ago, and Moscow a week ago.” “Oh, yes,” Scotty says, smiling faintly, “you have a good memory.” “You too, sir.” Chekov replies, smiling as he hands Scotty his glass.
“Sir? Sir!” Chekov’s voice rings through the hallway. Scotty’s only just collected his luggage and he’s outside looking for a taxi when Chekov rushes outside and grabs his arm. Scotty looks up; Chekov’s still wearing that cute red uniform and Scotty looks at him curiously. “What can I do for you?” “You left your bag,” Chekov says, holding up Scotty’s bag to him. “Oh, thank you, laddie,” Scotty says, “how did you know it was my bag?” “I recognized it from our previous flights, sir.” “Scotty.” “Sorry?” “You can call me Scotty,” Scotty explains. “Okay, sir- Scotty,” Chekov says, smiling widely.
Scotty catches himself actually anticipating Chekov and himself sharing the same flight. He gets lucky. Chekov throws him a big smile as he passes him by. Scotty eyes him with interest as Chekov performs the safety instructions to the first class flyers. After takeoff, he provides Scotty his whiskey. And honestly, he shouldn’t be enjoying it when Chekov focuses on the customer next to Scotty. His back is turned to Scotty and he bends over a little to quietly explain something to the guy. Definitely a good sight. Definitely something he shouldn’t be thinking about.
Similarly, Chekov smiles just a little brighter when Scotty’s taking his flight. There’s often a “whiskey on us, sir”, and “is there anything I can do for you?” Scotty forgets his bag again, though it’s only somewhat an accident. It’s mostly on purpose, because he hears a a thick Russian accent yelling “Mr. Scott! Mr. Scott, sir! I mean, Scotty!” And it’s the cutest thing ever. “You forgot your bag again.” Chekov says, panting just a little, “you know, sometimes I think you’re leaving it on purpose.” Scotty laughs, partially because he realizes how obvious his own plan had been. “What would I do without you, Chekov?” Scotty remaks as he takes his bag, and Chekov smiles. Gentle, but definitely not shy. “I’m flying to Scotland next week,” Chekov starts slowly, and Scotty looks at him with interest. “Do you, aye?” “Yes. I’ll be in Glasgow for three days.” “Glasgow, that’s even better,” Scotty says. “Yes,” Chekov starts, “I was thinking, perhaps if you are in Scotland as well, you could show me around?” Scotty stares at Chekov silently for a while. For all of that brilliant mind of his, it takes him perhaps awkwardly long to figure out Chekov’s asking him out. “I’m not,” Scotty says eventually, rubbing the back of his neck, “I won’t be back in Glasgow for another month.” “Oh,” Chekov replies, not allowing his own smile to falter. Like the perfectly trained flight attendant he is. “Perhaps soon,” Scotty says, and Chekov nods. “Perhaps.”
Scotty realizes how much of an idiot he is for rejecting Chekov’s advances. Though he wasn’t lying - he truly wasn’t going to be in Glasgow for another month. And when he is, he talks to his family about this cute flight attendant he can’t shake from his mind. He even mentions him to Jaylah, who just shrugs and says “who cares about work, Montgomery Scotty? You can afford a few days off.” And she’s right. He can afford to say no to this EXPO in London, and he can absolutely afford to find out where Chekov will be flying next, and when his next break is.
Chekov isn’t on Scotty’s initial flight, but that’s okay. Apparently he’s flying in from Dubai, and so Scotty stays in a hotel for two days until Chekov’s scheduled to arrive. He shamelessly waits for him to walk out of customs. No longer in uniform, and he looks even better in casual jeans and a t-shirt, leather jacket slung over his shoulder and pulling a troley along. “Chekov!” Scotty calls out to him, a little awkwardly so. Chekov looks very surprised. “Oh, Mr. Scott- Scotty, what are you doing here?” “I was hoping I’d run into you,” Scotty says, and Chekov raises an eyebrow. “Me?” “Yes, I, uh. I’m going to be in Moscow for a few days,” Scotty lies, because he has absolutely no purpose in this city other than to see Chekov. “I was wondering if maybe you could show me around.” Chekov’s lips curl into a grin. “Perhaps.” He says. Scotty briefly looks concerned, but Chekov presses his hand to Scotty’s back to guide him outside. “Did you know Whiskey was actually invented by a little old lady in Russia?” “I’m Scottish, lad, that isn’t going to work on me.” Scotty laughs. “It’s true!” “It’s not.” “How about we go drink a few and then argue our history?” Chekov suggests, and Scotty nods. “Perhaps.” He says, and Chekov laughs. “Winner of that argument gets a free meal as part of our date.” Chekov suggests, and Scotty smiles. “Deal.”

Half of the appeal had been having some breathing room for once. * Moments from the life of Pavel Chekov, spanning the years from the summer of 2258 to the late autumn of 2263. **** Well, there it is, folks. One entire month of my life, minus seven chapters I couldn’t figure out how to work into the narrative properly.
I remember when ST2009 came out, I became completely obsessed with Scotty/Chekov. I’d shipped them before (the Tribble episode, come on!) but that film just took this ship and made it my OTP. Then Into Darkness came out and I was so disappointed, I lost interest in all things Star Trek.
Well lucky for us, Simon Pegg heard our cries and lo and behold, he descended from the heavens to bless us with Beyond.
I’ve seen it four times already, I can confirm that this is the best reboot film and, above all, it made me love Scokov* again. They are, like, 97% canon in this film.
Let’s see: - Pavel has a bottle of great Scotch in his locker - when Enterprise is approaching Yorktown for the first time, Scotty is lounging at Pavel’s console - THE HUG! NNNNNNNNHHHHHHHGGGGGGGHHHFFF! MR SCOTT! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! FORGIVE ME FATHER FOR I HAVE SINNED - after Kirk & co go onto their rescue mission, Scotty and Chekov stay behind. On their own. Alone, just the two of them.
So basically, what I’m trying to say is, they are totally doing it on the downlow and are also in love.
(But seriously, Beyond is amazing, go see it if you haven’t)
* kids are calling it Chotty these days?! Why?! When I was your age! *grumbles*
Last weekend, at Anime Central, I commissioned this AMAZING SKETCH from kalashnikov-art who gave me permission to color and upload it. :)
It was buttloads of fun. This artist’s work is all amazing by the way. Go check it out.
