Rizzless jacket
Welcoming Starfleet Academy to the "shady and rough merchant planet just outside federation jurisdiction where everyone wears hoods and the Starfleet officers have to go there for information or to meet someone" club.
Much like I will not pretend that TOS is somehow gayer than any of the Berman era shows no matter how much you tell me Spirk is totally canon, I will not pretend DS9 is somehow gayer than modern trek that has gay characters played by real gay actors, who are allowed to be queer in more than one episode, who don’t need the step removed of being an alternate universe version of a main character to be queer, or to have been in a straight relationship with their queer love interest in a previous life. Plus, real trans people exist in modern Star Trek. Not just allegorical worms.
I LOVE DS9, I love Rejoined, I love the mirror universe episodes and the mirror versions of the cast, I love the Trill, I love love love Jadzia and Lenara and Intendant Kira and prime Ezri and Mirror Ezri and Mirror Leeta, and yes all the subtext queerness as well.
But I’m not going to pretend it’s somehow better than where we are now.
I mean, it is better than SNW season 3 but that’s an outlier.
A queer he/they black guy plays a sensitive gay Klingon on the current main Star Trek show. We had a Trill character played by an actual trans person who was both trans and a Trill. A pansexual black woman was the main character of a whole show. Thats amazing.
I love our classics, but we need to live in the now.
Science officer Klingon propaganda…
“I don’t like NuTrek, they don’t highlight what makes classic Trek so great.”
Cool. I recommend Star Trek Prodigy.
“So much of NuTrek is too far into the future or too far into the past”
Okay cool… I recommend Prodigy. It starts literally after Voyager ended.
“These new seasons of NuTrek are so short, and their plots move by way too fast”
Again… Prodigy. It’s 20 episodes a season, there are two seasons, that’s 40 episodes! Lots of time to go on hijinks and still have overarching plots.
“These NuTrek shows don’t respect the cannon of Star Trek”
PLEASE… I’m BEGGING YOU… watch Star Trek Prodigy. The writers LOVE the canon of legacy Trek and they’ve worked hard to improve on storylines from the TNG and VOY eras while also added some very deep cuts and references only seasoned Trek fans will catch!
Please… Prodigy is on Netflix. You can watch all 40 episodes now. It’s fantastic!
Is it OTP worthy? ⤷ Chris Pike & Una Chin-Riley | Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
nutrek is not trek enough because it does not have enough gays. exempt for lower decks
