The first time I heard Bach’s Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue in D Minor, I did not understand it at all. It was played by Glenn Gould, and he didn’t like the piece either. But later, I heard Mahan Esfahani playing it on the harpsichord and I was impressed. Here, Max Baillie plays the work on his viola. It makes for astonishing listening.
