A trio of beers at Yard House in Newport Beach. On the top, Pizza Port’s Chronicale (a 2 of 4), on the bottom left, Elysian’s Space Dust IPA (a 3 of 4), and on the bottom right, Modern Times’ Fortunate Islands (a 4 of 4). The Chronicale is a solid easy-drinking amber ale. Not a lot of hop presence in the nose - some faint pine notes, but nothing too powerful. Some light caramel malt notes in the body - quite light all around. The Space Dust is a great IPA - lots of citrus and juicy hop qualities to this, and a nice aggressive bitterness in a somewhat creamy body. Quite easy to drink, and very nicely balanced. Finally, Fortunate Islands is a wonderful juicy hop bomb on top of a light wheat ale. Huge amounts of tropical fruit and citrus notes are present, and then the standard dry wheat body underneath. At 5% ABV, this is a wonderful light beer with good character all around.
