Grace smiled at the bartender when they set the plate of fries in front of her, uttering her quiet gratitude. It was strange to be back in Cape Hazel, and she’d expected as much. What she didn’t expect was for the town to be a completely different place. To the person beside her, she started, “You know, I was only gone for four months, but I feel like four years worth of stuff happened while I was away.”

Shambles was probably an apt description for Sasha’s life just last week, but now? Well, now...everything was falling into place. It was always her father’s plan for her to take his seat as mayor after he retired from office, and she always resented it. After The Incident, however, she had a change of heart, and she was prepared to turn over a new leaf and serve the people of Cape Hazel like the true leader they needed...then literally zero of those rats voted for her! She got zero fucking votes! Luckily, this town will never not be a shitshow, so in some twisted logic the town council named her mayor after the three-way tie between the other fuckheads, and Sasha rightfully won the crown. Er, seat. Now that everyone was stuck with her as MAYOR!!!, she was ready to lay out the revenge they all deserved. She strutted down Main Street with a violent smirk glowing in her eyes and barked at the first person she saw. “Hey, you. Why didn’t you vote for me?”

It had been a long shift. Night shifts were always the hardest to slog through, and heading home to her bed while the rest of the town was just starting their day wasn’t thrilling prospect. Still, Diana wouldn’t change her career for anything. Her stomach rumbled; she was starving, and not sure she had anything edible left in the fridge. First on the agenda was treating herself to something to eat before turning in for the remainder of the day. Unfortunately, it seemed like half the town had decided to treat themselves to breakfast. The diner was fit to burst, without a spare table in sight. Diana glanced around, desperately looking for somewhere to sit, before her eyes eventually fell on another figure, sitting alone. Without another option, she approached, tentative smile on her face. “Hey, do you mind if I join you? I’ll treat you to a coffee if you let me. Can’t say fairer than that.”

“It’s still missing something,” Ro said with a frown, restarting the track they were mixing on their laptop again to try and pinpoint exactly what was wrong with it. “Here, give this a listen,” she popped out an earphone and offered it to the nearest passer by, “And let me know what you think. I want an honest answer, by the way. Compliments won’t help me.”

“anything interesting happen at that wedding?” eddy asked, taking a sip of his overly-bitter coffee. he’d skipped the wedding to sleep and, so far, he wasn’t regretting that decision. sitting in a pew and being reminded of all the things he was robbed of didn’t seem like his idea of a good time, but he was sure he’d missed something go down. that’s just how it was in this town.

“uh, what the hell are you doing?” indy asked, confusion lacing every word. she wasn’t sure if she was supposed to be disgusted, shocked, or impressed by what she was seeing, so a little clarity was bound to help. or at least she hoped so.
