For those that know me, know that I’ve been working on trying to move and work in S.Korea...since 2014/15? And now that I’m here, it’s turned into a “grass is always greener” situation and I don’t know how I feel about that. lol
Regardless, I’m living in Seoul. If you have any questions (working in Korea, the process, quarantine, etc) I’d be happy to answer any questions that come my way. I’m always curious to know what others are asking~
I’m currently working under Chungdahm (yes, yes, for those that know...know)
It’s honestly not that bad. I’ve heard horror stories and got an alright pick.
Well #latepost but I get to be on vacation for a week now. Not doing anything special. Just gonna relax and have a #staycation. #ilovemystudents #chungdahm #teacherlife #365project #day118 (at Changwon)
Yasss teaching a lesson on "Changing Female Gender Roles" today! I'm excited but also bracing myself for the inevitable sexist comments from my Littles. #teacherlife #chungdahm #wecandoit #makingadifference #maybe #365project #day108
Today was the last day of my 4-week Intensive Class. We had a lot of fun watching and analyzing TED Talks for debates. I was a little nervous that the class would be too much but these kids were amazing. #winter #chungdahm #teacherlife #ilovemystudents #365project #day25 (at Changwon)
This is just some stuff that I really need to get out and I felt tumblr would be the best place to do it. If you feel like reading, cool, if not, also cool.
Dear Boss,
It’s been two years since I’ve been working here and in general you’re a good guy. However, there’s a bunch of shit you’ve done that I cannot stand and, honestly, I’m sick of working with you. Let me list why you’re so not fun to work with.
1. You care waaaay too much about what people think of you. Asking me to play good cop to someone? Really? If an employee is not doing the work you need them to do then you say fuck diplomacy and you tell them their ass is about to be fired unless they can change. Also, that one time you rearranged people’s schedules so you didn’t have to give me an extra class that desperately needed to be covered? Not cool. You may think I’m mad at you, but I’m mad at the situation. Also, it’s your friend that couldn’t pass his goddamn drug test so man up and tell people what they need to do.
2. You act way too friendly to your employees. Don’t get me wrong, I like friendly bosses, that’s totally cool. But you probably shouldn’t be out drinking and partying with us. When it comes time to actually be the boss, you can’t do it. Also, that time you wouldn’t stop asking me about something I found sexually appealing? Creepy and super awkward.
3. You couldn’t care less that you’re employees are worried about the legality of the company. Our company got sued! And if an employee has a complaint or a question, it is your job to go inquire or at least placate and say “sure I’ll look into that.” What is not okay is literally telling your employee to her face that you couldn’t give a shit if this company was on the up-and-up.
4. You complain about your wife all the time. I’ve met your wife. I’ve known her for a year now. Would I say that I know her super well? No, probably not. But I know enough to know when you are bullshitting me about her being a demanding bitch. Also, and this part is super important, WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU GET MARRIED IF YOU ARE GOING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME!??!?!?!? You’re the asshole that gives marriage a bad rap. Marriage shouldn’t be a shackle, it should be a lifetime to spend with your best friend!
5. You pick the worst employees. When I came in the atmosphere was very welcoming but you judged me, worrying that I might be anal about things, all because I asked about the amenities my apartment would have. One term later you hired a ton of assholes. They were assholes to you too, but you just didn’t seem to notice. They don’t care about the company and they don’t care about you.
6. Your favoritism is out of control. You clearly favor some employees over others, on a personal level, and then give them more opportunities. And then, the other employees, who you totally could have put a little effort into, are left by the wayside. I came to you many times for help, telling you I had serious trouble with this one type of class and not only did you keep giving me the damn class but you refused to help me, telling me “oh you’ll be fine”. Honestly, if you would have put a little effort, or given me a little praise every now and then, I probably wouldn’t be leaving. You clearly don’t give a shit about me so why should I give a shit about this job, or about you?
You know what sucks? Being they type of person who always had a plan to now not having one. Every since I was 14 I’ve always had a plan for what I was going to do next with my life, but now ten years later I’m facing for the first time what it is like to not have a plan.
And it sucks!
It also doesn’t help that I’m in a different country and do not have many resources at my disposal to help me figure out my next move.
So far I have two options:
1. Go back to the States like a failure and figure my life out there, resulting in a complete waste of time and money that I spent trying to get to this country.
2. Try to find another job here while living off of my last paycheck and still having to pay for this months rent/utilities and also knowing that there is no guarantee (because nothing is ever guaranteed) that I will find another job.
