It was the coming of "Tempus Finis", the end of the world spoken of in legend. Tohno: ...But the one who brought it about has sublimated now. Tohno: I can't exactly be happy about that, but... Thus, leaving them with those ominous words, Imperial Marshal Cid Aulstyne died and disappeared from the memories of everyone in the world.

Having lost their motivational support, the Milites army surrendered to Rubrum before long. And with that, finally--

Ace: Wh... What was that...?! What happened?! Tohno: Is this the same as when the world ended before?! Tohno: It couldn't be... Tempus Finis has come again?!

Yup. That's right. It's this guy. The guy that (almost) tore Class Zero apart, made Machina turn against his classmates, indirectly killed Kurasame by sending him to help summon the Verboten Eidolon. All of this just because Dr. Arecia and Class Zero stole his and his military's spotlight. (I dunno if I forgot anything else.)

The ending where Class Zero becomes a l'Cie is somewhat satisfying tho. If you played the game and chose the "Become a l'Cie" path, you know what I mean. 😏😏

Chapter 5, Act 3 Battle of the Rubrum Plains

After the Verboten Eidolon Summoning Strategy was revealed, Rubrum mobilized the whole army and put their plan into action.

And then, a strategy for Player and the other cadets was also announced...

Ace: Milites's 2nd division just took down Aqvi's last line of defense. The 1st and 3rd divisions have subsequently broken through the coastline and naval blockade. Ace: Lastly, the town closest to Akademeia, McTighe -- their final defense line has been defeated and we've lost all communication. Ace: The divisions are heading here. Their advance guard will attack Akademeia soon. Ace: Our opportunity to summon the Verboten Eidolon hasn't come yet, though. We can't summon it yet. Machina: The opportunity hasn't come...? What do you mean? Miyu: The summoning of the Verboten Eidolon is a final trump card that can only be used once. If we used it now to defeat their advance guard, there would still be many enemies remaining behind them. Miyu: We'll wait until there are as many enemies here as we can handle. Ace: That's when we'll find out opportunity-- We'll eradicate the whole Milites army in one blow.

Machina: So it would seem... Unlike all the other battlefields we've seen this far, Akademeia will be behind us this time. Machina: If they break through our line of defense, they'll invade Akademeia. If they destroy our Crystal, then everything will be over...! Ace: But as long as we succeed in defending Akademeia, our biggest crisis will become our biggest chance.

Miyu: If I can get within sight of the base, I can annihilate their soldiers with my magic. Rem: You're going to annihilate them...?! You can do that now, Representative...?! Miyu: Indeed. My physical body isn't that different from a regular human's, but my magic is on a completely different level now. Miyu: Listen up, men. This isn't a mission to delay our defeat. Miyu: After the defeat of Lorica and Concordia, two nations remain in Orience. Rubrum or Milites? Who will be the victors of this war? Miyu: The time to decide is now. Let's go, men.

Miyu: Let's return to Akademeia and come up with our own plan for the next battle.

Cid: So a new l'Cie has been born to the Dominion... That was faster than expected. This is somewhat of a miscalculation. Lean: Yes... According to intel, the l'Cie is the Cadet Representative, Miyu Kagirohi. Lean: She's the woman who brought down the Invincible during the assault on Akademeia. Following the failure of their operation to attack Akademeia, the Milites army was discussing future strategies under the leadership of Marshal Cid Aulstyne.

Cid: --Qun'mi. You lost to the likes of those cadets. How unbelievably incompetent for a l'Cie such as you. Cid: You failed to capture the Dominion's Crystal and the existence of the Crystal Jammer has been exposed to other countries. Cid: Lorica, the superpower to the north, seems to see this as an opportunity and are planning an attack... This was a tremendous error on your part, don't you think so, Qun'mi? Qun'mi: ...I acknowledge this. That is why I plan to take responsibility. I, Senior Captain Qun'mi Tru'e, will transition to the next mission. I will move quickly to strike Lorica and slaughter them. Cid: That will do. Lean: Wait a minute, Qun'mi! When you say you plan to "slaughter" Lorica... Do you mean with THAT weapon?! Lean: If you do that, you won't just be sorry! You'll get caught in the blast and you'll die for sure this time! Qun'mi: That's fine. This is my role. Qun'mi: ...Goodbye, Marshal. Glory to the Milites Empire.

Queen: Player, I heard from the Representative. You defeated the enemy l'Cie, didn't you? Queen: It's just so sudden, it's hard for me to believe. You're still just a newbie... Nine: Don't say that, Queen. A person's record doesn’t determine their strength, y'know? Nine: Anyway, Player. There's somethin' I need your power for... Nine: The other day, we managed to push back the Milites army when they attacked Akademeia. But that don't mean the war's over. Nine: While Akademeia was bein' attacked, other enemies invaded our territory. Towns have been captured. I think this is where stuff’s really gonna get started. Nine: We cadets were given the mission to free the occupied towns. Player, can I count on you to back us up?

Player choice: >Leave it to me! >I wonder if I have it in me...

Queen: Brimming with confidence, aren't you? If there's anything else you want to know, just ask. Nine: When you're ready for the mission, come talk to me. Lookin’ forward to working with ya, Player.

Chapter 1, Act 1 With New Companions

[Setting: Field]

Nine: We're here, Player. That's the town of Meroë over there. Nine: Right now, that town is under the Empire's occupation. A bunch of cadets are already moving to recapture it. Nine: So ya see, our mission is to sneak in and take out the enemy commander. Queen: By the look of things, the enemy is ready for an ambush. They must have been reading our movements. Queen, smirking: Huhu, this is perfect...! We'll make them regret having laid a finger on one of our towns! Queen: Let's go, you two! Follow me and don’t drag your feet!

The Light of the End and Beginning

[Setting: Meroë]

Nine: Alright! Mission accomplished, yo! Nine, pumping his fist: As soon as they lost their commander, the occupying forces collapsed. The liberation of Meroë is a success. Queen: Player, you were quite something. It seems you really must've been capable of taking out a l'Cie.

Player choice: >I still have a long way to go. >Does this mean you're acknowledging me?

Queen: There's no need to be so humble. The success of this mission was due in large part to your contribution. Queen, blushing slightly: It was my mistake for having doubted your ability. My sincerest apologies. Nine: *sigh* You just can't bring yourself to be honest, can ya, Queen? But yeah. With this kinda energy, we oughta be able to free the other towns. Queen: Right you are. Meanwhile, I've heard that the Dominion is extending an alliance request to Lorica, the country in the north.

Player choice: >I still have a long way to go. >Does this mean you're acknowledging me?

Queen: Hmph. Perhaps. I'm still in the middle of deciding that.

Queen: If we can acquire Lorica as an ally, we'll have no fear of defeat. With our two nations combined, we can crush Milite- Nine: ...?! What the hell was that sound?! An explosion? Queen, with a hand over her chest: L-Look! In the sky to the north...! There's some kind of light!!

(A cutscene of Lorica being obliterated by the Ultima Bomb.)

The Milites army dropped the weapon of mass destruction known as the "Ultima Bomb" on Lorica.

Nine: S-... Seriously...?! Milites have weapons like that?! Queen: ...We aren’t safe here. We have to go back to Akademeia and discuss what we're going to do now.

[Setting: Cemetery]

Tohno: Thank you for the other day, Player... It looks like you'll be pairing up with Nine and Queen this time. Tohno: Those two were also in the previous world... But they're a bit different from how they were before. Tohno: How should I put it...? I think I could say that their personalities seem rather different from how they used to be. Tohno: In the previous world, Nine was a brave, bold warrior. And in contrast, Queen was a very clever and intelligent person. Tohno: Even if the world changes, the people who live here don't change. But sometimes it seems like these kinds of differences can occur. Tohno: It's proof that the world we're currently in is different from the one that used to exist...

Tohno: ...You're right. It's probably presumptuous of me to assume that I can change history all by myself. Tohno: But it's still so frustrating... I knew this would happen, but I couldn't stop it. Tohno: Is there a better way? If we managed to save Lorica, I wonder how that would have affected the world. Tohno: But... Now there's no way for me to know.

Izana: Hey, Player. You like Chocobos, don’t you? Izana: There's another Chocobo lover here, you know. This place is going to get even livelier with you here. Ace: Oh... It's you, Player. It seems like we run into each other here a lot. Izana: Oh yeah! This might sound sudden, but how would you two like to join the "Choco-Club"? Ace: Choco... Club? Izana: The "Chocobo Research Club." We do a lot of research to raise even more magnificent Chocobos. Izana: We research greens mixtures, breeding methods... Even different training regimens. Ace: Oh, really? Ace, pleased: I see... Then maybe I'll join, too. Machina: --ait, wait, wait, brother. Are there any other members in that Chocobo Research Club thing? Izana: Members? It's just me. I just made it up a second ago. Izana: But if you, Player, and Ace join, that'd make four of us. Now that's what I'd call a "club." Machina: You expect me to join?! Give me a break!

Ace, crestfallen: Oh... That's too bad. Izana: Aw, don't be like that, Player. Think about it positively.

Commandant: Those damn Milites dogs have no sense of decency...! Using a weapon of mass destruction like that... Are they trying to destroy the world?! Commandant: If we don't quickly take measures against the Ultima Bomb, then Rubrum may become Milites's second dance! Commissar: To help with that, we've been working on an alliance with Concordia. Commissar: However, I do not believe that alone will be enough to oppose Milites. Commissar: A more effective utilization of the cadets will be necessary. Cadetmaster: ...What a despicable suggestion. Regardless of how strong their magical power may be, relying on children is cowardly. Commandant: But it's undeniable that they have power. If we hope to oppose the Milites Empire, we have no choice but to utilize the cadets-- Commandant: --Hrm? You over there. Are you a cadet? Commandant: Did you hear what we were saying? I don't admire eavesdropping. Commandant: ...But it is as you heard. Moving forward, we will need to rely on your power. Thereafter, Rubrum surrendered to Milites and the war headed toward its end--

Ace, smiling: Good work, Representative. With this, our war comes to an end... Miyu: ...No. It isn't over yet. Miyu: It's true that the war with Milites is over. But that battle was just the outpost of the true coming battle. Ace: Representative...? What are you talking about? What's this 'true battle'? Miyu: You may not understand now, but you will soon. Miyu: Soon enough, every person in the world will understand. You cadets will know your true enemy and the meaning of the words "Tempus Finis." Ace: Tempus Finis...? Do you mean the end of the world spoken of in legend...? Ace: You can't be saying that it's approaching, can you? Something as unbelievable as that...?

[Setting: Milites]

Cid: On this day, the age of our enslavement by the Crystals comes to an end. We may now begin a new age forged by the hands of humanity. Cid: The people of Milites who ended the war and who will realize a new era are the "Agito" of legend!

[Setting: Terrace]

Miyu: ...Indeed, the war fought between humans has ended. The souls which overcame that trial have assembled and will now be judged. Miyu: And so, the seal of the beginning is broken, and the time of judgment arrives... Humans, dance in the finale.

[Setting: Milites]

Milites Soldier: M-Marshal Cid! There's an emergency transmission!! Milites Soldier: We're receiving reports of "unidentified monsters" attacking all over the place! The number of enemies is undetermined; there's too many to count! Cid: What...?! Be more specific! What kind of monster is it?! Cid: The sky is... Turning red...?! Cid: Wh- What's going on...?! No... It couldn't... Cid: Is this the "Tempus Finis" spoken of in legend?!

In accordance with Miyu's ominous prophecy, that time arrived.

The monsters that appeared around Akademeia also appeared throughout the rest of Orience and began to indiscriminately attack all of humanity.

That was assuredly the end of the world written of in legend, the arrival of Tempus Finis.
