With sales up, some labels and artists are trying to make vinyl more environmentally friendly.

Music and especially vinyls are one of my greatest passions but as with lot of things there's always a "dark side" we can't ignore. As a designer I feel the responsibility to think more holistically and systemically to use design as a means to crete better futures for people and the planet while preserving the beauty of designing.

This example from the vinyl industry is representative of the role and responsibility design has in reducing waste, creating circularity, positively influencing consumers' behaviours while also keeping such a magic world alive.

"One of the things about sustainability is it shouldn't be a killjoy. We need to be able to enjoy music," he says.

"You don't want to stop people buying vinyl or to stop people streaming music, because music is such an important part of our lives and our mental health."

A little bit wonky a little bit bumpy perfectly imperfect 🤍 This is the Noosa III, hand sculpted from papier-mâché clay and made using paper and card waste. Think Amazon packaging, cereal boxes, egg cartons, magazines etc all of which are high quality materials but get thrown away almost instantly.
