Amazing Digital Circus AU, anyone?
Hello. I had asked Terri about the Kipo AU you were both working on and I wanted to know what you could share on your end if you don't mind. I'd love to see more material for this AU :D
So I've seen! Unfortunately I am not the most fond of sharing developmental doodles; I like to share the final ones and that's about it, but I'll dig up what I have, just for this special occasion ;)
These were a few of my first passes, cause I like to try and emulate show styles with my own twist, and I was p happy with them for the most part!
Then I came back a while ago to revisit the idea with Terri (around the time season 2 dropped) and changed p much everything about my design!
Idk how much Terri wants to spill the beans on the storyline we started making for us, so I'll leave it at that! I'm sure if you ask them nicely they might say more~
Hello! I was just wondering if you had anything more to share about your Kipo AU. It's fine if you don't, I'm just happy to see someone having actually made an AU based on such a great show! :D
I don’t have much more at the moment, just some initial doodles that I did before settling on the design that I posted. Here’s dem doobles
That’s that on the art department (at least for me, you should ask @ashiftingworkshop to show her doodles)
But on the brainstorming side we have quite a lot! A lot of excited and oblivious nerd™ gushing about the very topic that makes mute-gal anxious to interact with people. Also SD’s there too, I just have no sketches of him xD
I didn't realize Mother's Basement had beef with the Anime Man.
It’s not outright beef as much as it is:
MB - *posts bad take*
AM - *posts single one-word joking response to said bad take*
MB - *proceeds to go on and on about how people with large platforms and large followings shouldn’t condone toxic behavior just over one innocuous word*
And, I really have been thinking about this because when I was originally talking about/observing the drama, I tried to say ‘Okay, maybe if a newcomer only wanted to watch the parts of JJBA that incorporate Stands then maybe they could start at Part 3 at the latest.’
But then I realized that that unfortunately doesn’t work because if you start at Part 3:
Who the fuck is Joseph?
Who the fuck is Dio?
Why the hell is the Speedwagon Foundation so important?
Let alone if you start at Part 4, which gets you:
Who the fuck is Joseph?
Who the fuck is Dio?
Why the hell is the Speedwagon Foundation so important?
Who the fuck is Jotaro?
Where did this magic arrow come from?
Why can some people use Stands while others have to be shot by said arrow and survive?
WHAT THE FUCK IS A STAND?!
All in all, I’m just reminded of those people who, when KHIII was coming out, were saying that they shouldn’t be expected to play the other games in the series to understand the story. Which, if this was several years ago when the games were spread across 18 different consoles (that’s a hyperbole, I know), I would relent and say ‘Okay, yeah; just look up a summary. But aren’t there several collection editions that bundle all the older games together? So there’s really no excuse?
I swear, a lot of people just want every long-running saga to be like the MCU: ‘Technically we were building up Endgame over almost 20-something movies and specials. BUUUUT if you don’t want to be bothered with all that and just want to watch a bunch of CGI fireworks, Chris Hemsworth being sad, and Brie Larson... Existing, you can just come on in!’
2 and 4, please.
2. Who is your favorite staff member(s)?
I'm gonna have to say Divus 😔 I really like his character design but I lose it every single time he suddenly says "Stay!" or "Good boy." I laugh so hard I'm bfkfbckfbkfnfkfnfkfnfknfkfnfdknfdkjfkdjfkdjfkfjdkfjfkf
4. Which is your favorite dorm?
Octavinelle! I initially didn't like them at first but diving deeper into their relationship with each other;; It just made me fall in love with them.
Hello! I had a couple of questions if you don't mind me asking. 1. How does Terra feel about MC/Yuu (you're free to choose either whatever we're given in canon or a fanon Yuu)? 2. Do you have any AUs (aside from the one where Terra/Jamil are a couple instead of her and Leona) that you've had Terra be in/a part of?
Hi! Thanks for the questions 💛
1. Terra is curious about canon MC/Yuu since she has heard from several people (including Leona) about a non-magical student attending NRC. Despite them not having magic abilities though, she wouldn’t treat them differently from everyone else (although she does feel bad that they can’t defend themselves on their own). As for fanon MC/Yuu though, I think her reaction would vary. If Yuu happens to be a girl and isn’t in disguise, she’d honestly feel a bit envious on the inside because Terra still has to hide her gender while she doesn’t. (´;ω;`) Ultimately though, she’s not someone who likes being mean to others so she’d treat all MCs with respect as long as they’re respectful to her as well.
2. Oh, as for AUs, I haven’t really thought about a lot of them in-depth, to be honest! I think they’d be fun to explore in the future but as of now, I’m mostly focusing on Terra’s life at NRC. u_u (Although I’ve been talking to a friend about a possible poly ship AU between her, Leona, and Jamil but I’m too shy to talk about that publicly haha...)
8, 11, and 12 please.
8. Are there any themes, motifs, or approaches to subjects that you have purposefully tried to cultivate in your writing?
I think pretty much all of my stories focus on different types of bonds, not just romantic. But also family, working and friendship.
My writing tends to deal with the supernatural, fae and other subjects. Though, I can write slice of life as well.
I also tend to write all of my characters as people first instead of heroes and villains. Because I think we all have good and bad in us to varying degrees, so I want my writing to reflect that. It’s a good way to write more complex and dynamic characters. On a similar note, I try to have some sort of motive behind the character’s actions big and small.
11. What common writing advice do you think is useless?
Can’t think of “common” ones like this. I think the dumbest pieces of writing advice I’ve seen are to never describe your main character and to never use exclamation points.
For the first one, I can see where some of it is coming from. Super long descriptions of the main character is bad writing, since it bogs down the proses. Breaking up the description over the course of the story and adding character action makes it easier to digest. But at the same time, unless you are writing a second person self insert, there should be a descriptor of the MC. If you don’t, you can imagine the protagonist as a cinderbox and story will make just about as much sense. Unfortunately, if the protagonist is POC, some people still need that to be flat out stated otherwise they’ll just automatically think the MC is white. Descriptors help out with that.
As for the latter, exclamation points just point out if a person is yelling or if a point is passionate. Sure, don’t overuse them like old school comics, because it’s hard to read. But I can’t for the life of me see why there’s any problem with using them if the story calls for it like when the characters are yelling.
12. What common writing advice do you think is actually pretty useful?
I think the one that springs to mind first is how to use the whole “show don’t tell” generalization properly. To summarize, if you want to show the emotions of the characters or get the reader invested in a scene, then show. Add in descriptors like “a fist clenched at his side, glaring at the man” to show that the character is angry and do the same for other emotions. Avoid phrases like “I smelt”, “I saw”, etc. Those bog down your prose in excess. (But there are exceptions, like with anything.) If you want to summarize a situation in order to get to the point faster, then tell. I try to do this in my own writing, but I’m not sure if I’m any good at it still.
2 and 10, please.

2) Who is your favorite staff member(s)?
Divus~ He’s just doing his best to teach his annoying students. He like’s fashion and I think he’s hot. I like kinda like Vargas too.
10) What is your favorite special event (Ghost Marriage, Fairy Gala, etc.)?
I really liked the way that Wish Upon a Star played. Incorporating the lessons and rhythm. Plus it wasn’t too long and incorporated all the characters well.
