Dr Baran Al-Hashimi is just proving time and time again that she truly cares and is an empathetic doctor, and that things affect her just as much as any other person. I find her becoming much more of a grounding figure in the ED as the season goes on, while the rest of them spiral out (Robby, Samira, Santos, etc.)
i just finished community for the first time, and while its so well written and one of my new favourite shows now, one thing really bothered me
everything post season 3 felt so off to me. and i know theres reasons like harmon leaving season 4 or the focus moving to characters and deeper lessons rather than funny bits. but it was almost spiteful? like, the constant references to season 4 as shit, the self burns of how horrible the show was right up until the last episode. it just made it really unenjoyable as i felt this vibe of pettiness across the rest of community
maybe im overreading it because i know the context, but thats how it felt
im curious about others opinions 🤨
edit: also, every was really mean to abed in s6 for no reason?
Lestat speaking not only English, but also French and Italian, hmmmmm I like this, I like this a lot. The lingua representation makes my brain go brrrrrrrr.
Okay I’ve taken some time to think on this. Here are my thought on Al Hashimi:
I like her. While I like her, there are things I don’t like about her as well.
I don’t like the AI thing. Nothing will ever make me like that, and as an introduction to her character, yeah that made her take a hit in my view of her. At the same time, I don’t think her entire character should be defined by that.
She is a person of color and a woman entering the ER, and supposed to take over for Robby, because of that, it makes sense to me that she’s trying to get the lay of the land and throw her weight around a bit. She has a lot more to fight through than Robby does. Does that excuse any behavior that is inappropriate? Of course not. But she isn’t simply ‘a bitch’ because she’s coming into the Pitt and taking over. She’s doing her job.
I also think it’s hard to be a good leader when you don’t have all the information. Robby hasn’t been filling her in enough (she knows nothing of the Langdon/Santos issue for example), and this restricts her from being able to lead effectively.
She calls people out on and actively addresses issues, ex. Robby’s behavior with Samira. Imo it’s a good thing that she doesn’t hesitate to address things, and this is something that will make her a good leader in the Pitt.
Her working to get the prisoner fairer treatment and a bed in the hospital while Robby actively fought against it was a noble thing to do imo. She cares about her patients, and as we see later in ep10 as well, highlights having empathy as a caretaker. This is another characteristic that is signs of a good, empathetic leader.
I also liked that her and Dana aligned on the prisoner thing; I think that it’s building rapport and respect between the two of them, and the fact that Dana aligns with her at all tells me there is hope for Al Hashimi.
I think there’s something to be said about Jack clocking her and respecting her background. Jack knows her working with Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) and being at in Dasht-e-Barchi (Afghanistan) specifically working in the maternity ward (There was a brutal attack during that time) would have been extremely difficult. And we know it is because she specifically has moments in the show where she’s triggered (the baby and the teen). Jack is one of the few people that I see extend her an amount of leeway and humanity (along with Dana!), and I found it refreshing and made her more human overall. Robby, in comparison, has given her nothing.
It also speaks well that she’s worked with Mel and Samira and they both seem to like her (and they are also both pretty excellent at what they do).
Just to be clear, this isn’t a Robby bashing. I’m not saying Robby is entirely in the wrong and that Al Hashimi is 100% in the right every time. I’m noting my observations and thoughts, and that I don’t believe she’s just outright bad (as I similarly believe, that Robby isn’t outright bad).
Finished season 1 of the Pitt, ready for season twoooooo! My thoughts on the season pending and soon to be posted, although I can say with full certainty that I am a Dr. Robby stan—rabbot, hucklerobby, and hucklerabbot included— (;
Debating starting to write fics again… Mainly because of all the free time I have on my hands today heh. But also because the fight for sapphic representation lives on and there are so many characters and stories I have living in my head *giggles and kicks feet thinking about current hyperfixations— Kate Stewart, Joyce Byers, Karen Wheeler, Madam Morrible, Larissa Weems— I’m talking about you babes*
Kate Lethbridge Stewart, the kind of woman who’d keep it professional in the workplace. Most of the time. She’s the kind of woman who’d mastered that art of teasing you at work, under the radar, so that no one suspected a thing— a stray finger here, an exhale just too close to the back of your neck there— she knows how to work you up just to the point of breaking.
And then she drops it. For the rest of the day. Leaving you aching. Until finally you get home. The second the door closes behind you, your back is pushed against the door, your hands pinned above you. “I’ve been thinking about this all day, darling…”
