I have thoughts.
When it's time to part one says in norwegian "Takk for i dag" Thanks for today.
When people meet again they often say "Takk for sist" Thanks for last time to start a conversation (and use what happened 'this last time' as a starter).
Now listen. When Roche wins the battle in Flotsam, Iorveth calls him friend after he gave his heroic presumably 'last' speach. I can't get over this fr but that's not my point. My point is dolphins
Would Iorveth say "Takk for i dag"???? Like in this casual manner as it simply is the way to see someone off in norwegian. Would he unironically thank Roche for this wonderful battle, as it was a pleasure??
Would he do it in both versions, when he get's defeated AND when he wins? Like imagine Roche lying there and Iorveth be like: Was a lot of fun, what a great time, thanks for today ok bye.
And/Or when they meet again. If and/or WHO would say "Takk for sist" in this casual manner to greet someone again. and TO REMIND THEM OF THEIR DEFEAT LMAO
Hiii I've been rereading Appendicishit for the 100000th time and I've noticed in the part where max speaks dutch to Leo it says "Dank je, klein leeuw." If you allow me to correct, in dutch you would normally say "Dank je wel, kleine leeuw" or "Dank je, kleine leeuw" (dank je is the shorter version of dank je wel) and (dankjewel can be one word or seperate, I think seperate is less formal but idk that much haha) + kleine with the -e at the end because It's an adjective.
(I'm going to be very honest I've been lurking for a long time but have no idea if you like people looking at your works this critically and I have no clue what languages you speak so if you disagree please ignore this haha)
(I will be going back to rereading your works now, I'm a sucker for your works because they have so much personality and layers <3) + the parts w max and gp father-son relationship???? I actually love you for those parts pls keep in mind that I get mad everytime they say I can't leave anymore kuddos
... we're not going to talk about how long this has been sitting in my inbox :D
thank you! I do always appreciate help on the french/dutch/german/anything but english end, because they're not my native language and I don't know them! so I'm glad you pointed that out (and it's fixed now. finally.)
So I finally decided to relearn Chinese (simplified, Mandarin) because I guess I hate myself, and I got a secondhand Chinese-version HP book to translate to English as I learn
Do I keep doing this
yes, learning languages is great!
you dug this grave now die in it you coward
Well I guess we can really call him baby blue now
Bebe azul~
Fun fact, in Spanish, you add -ito/a or -cito/a to the end of a name or nickname as a way to call something cute, little, or baby-like. You usually use it to refer to a child or loved one as cute!
Azulito, in its most literal sense, can be translated as either little azul, cute azul, or baby azul depending on the context/sentence it's being used it! So, yes, we can really call him baby blue.
As I am now dissecting the character names for my fic, I've stumbled onto something interesting.
Derived from Anglo-Saxon Ēadweard, the name Edward is composed of ēad meaning "prosperous, fortune" and weard "guardian, protector".
Which leads me to a nice little thought that in OFMD Edward was a rather prosperous pirate captain and, in the end, his mother's protector.
my language year/my duolingo year
I have been using Duolingo a lot this year, but less in the past two months because at the moment. I will still post the screenshots of Duolingo year rewiev because I think it's fun and I like it.
czech
Czech is my main focus right now. I love it with my whole heart and it's so great. I started learning in may this year, and I honestly had no idea that it would bless my life this much. I had no idea what cases were when I begun. I also had no idea what aspectual verbs were, and the different levels? of czech. (formal vs colloquial vs common czech)
My main way at the moment to learn czech is to chat with people, make posts in czech and consuming czech media. Also reading grammar books/using grammar apps specifically for czech. So duolingo is not my main priority now.
I just do some one or more lessons to keep the streak up up and help count my days. Sometimes I get feeling and do a lot and sometimes not as much.
Czech is a very complicated language (affectionate) that's why I need the grammar and cultural things to be explained, So I read pdf-books and go to websites or apps that teaches czech. I have bought two grammar books, and found some others for free.
I liked one called "prosím - en guide till det tjeckiska språket" it was in Swedish and I was happy to find a book about Czech in Swedish. A big problem with the book was that letters such as Ý were gone...? not there sometimes..?
books I liked were : colloquial czech and čeština express. čeština express is in completely in czech. And I could find their website with excercises which was good.
and I found some bad books too but those I might talk about some other time.
I definitely want to continue with Czech and learn even more. There is many things I want to be able to say/write or talk about in Czech but I'm not able too yet.
dutch
for Dutch i actually completed the whole Dutch Duolingo tree this year, and that was very awesome. I am still learning Dutch but just not as activity as I'm learning Czech. Also the way I learn is the same as Czech, chatting, reading, watching videos etc.
My dutch friends, and my dutch teacher who i had have told me that I am doing good good at dutch and that they are impressed. So I trust what they say because they are good people, and because Dutch people are known to be honest. So thereforeI don't feel like I must "study as hard" in Dutch, if I'm able to express myself, what I want to say and be understood based on what I know now.
I went to a real life dutch class and
my dutch teacher was dutch and I liked her so much, it felt great to be somewhere where I could talk in dutch in person and learn things and ask questions, we the class played kahoot with ductch phrases and words and it was great. I won at kahoot a lot and that boosted my confidence.
But since I don't chat I Dutch as much as before I sometimes get brain freeze when trying to write in it.
Duolingo :
Top two? wow.
14 languages in total yaaay, some languages I have tried to just see what I thouht of them. Because I am a very curious person and love to find things out...
I did lessons in :
Ukrainian - I like it a lot, I think the lessons are well made and there is a separate part where they teach the letters/alphabet which is cool. They teach it in a very simple way.
Italian - it was fun and then became very difficult, I have considered if romance languages in general are just not for me, but I'm willing to give them another chance.
Finnish - I thought it was very fun to learn, and the example sentences were so lovely, like saying "good luck" which no other course has taught me and that feels important.
Hungarian - to be honest the duolingo hungarian course was not at all good. sometimes I couldn't even understand what they meant on the translated English text. I like the language itself just not Duolingo.
Yaay angel numbers. This makes my brain very happy. The screenshots are Xnumber of days old as of writing this, but I was just so happy to see these numbers.
5348 words... I can't trust that number to be accurate but im just gonna think "I learned a lot of words" and be satisfied with that.
And I am a galactic legend.... and in 2% top... not sure what to say about it other than it feels good.
