Supporting Character Supplemental - Doctor Claire Temple
Claire Temple was born and raised in New York City. As a young medical student, Claire married her high school sweetheart Bill Foster. Both were dedicated to their careers and over time grew apart. Eventually they separated and Clare would later file for divorce.
While earning her doctorate, Clair worked as a physician’s assistant to Noah Burstein at his 42nd Street Clinic. Dr. Bernstein was being targeted by racketeers and Claire recommended the services of Luke Cage, The Hero for Hire. Claire and Luke would go on to have a romantic relationship, an affair that continued off and on for a number of years. She relocated for a brief time to Los Angeles and had adventures alongside her ex-husband who had become the superhero, Goliath.
Having earned her medical license, Claire returned to New York City and took a residency at a local hospital. She continued to see Luke Cage, yet the constant danger of his being a superhero became too much and they ultimately parted (although remained close friends).
Claire’s great skill as a physician coupled with her connection to Luke Cage resulted in her becoming a doctor frequently called upon by the New York superhero community. Costumed crimefighters she has treated include Spider-Man, Daredevil, Captain America and others.
A version of Claire features in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in the Netflix series, Daredevil, and portrayed by actress Rosario Dawson. Dr. Temple first appeared in the pages of Hero for Hire #2 (1972).
