"When a woman gets thirty messages from a pursuer and doesn't call him back, but then finally gives in and returns his calls, no matter what she says, he learns that the cost of reaching her is leaving thirty messages. For this type of man, any contact will be seen as progress. Of course, some victims are worried that by not responding, they'll provoke him, so they try letting him down easy. Often, the result is that he believes she is conflicted, uncertain, really likes him but just doesn't know it yet."

"Stalking is how some men raise the stakes when women don't play along. It is a crime of power, control, and intimidation very similar to date rape. In fact, many cases of date stalking could be described as extended rapes; they take away freedom, and they honor the desires of the man and disregard the wishes of the woman. Whether he is an estranged husband, an ex-boyfriend, a onetime date, or an unwanted suitor, the stalker enforces our culture's cruelest rule, which is that women are not allowed to decide who will be in their lives."

Mr. Beaumont is technically assaulted TWICE in blue velvet... once by Dorothy and once by Frank Booth... I LOVE the fan theory (supported by Kyle Maclachlan) that Dale Cooper is Jeffery Beaumont all grown up... it's nice to imagine that he grows from an amateur detective to a sleek, competent FBI agent! It also gives clarity on why BOB possesses him in the S2 finale. BOB, reminiscent of a Native American trickster spirit, is the personification of "the cycle of abuse."
brooo looking at modern times and also history it’s crazy how lesbians are demonized but trans men are just like wiped off the board. like the guys with tits are totally invisible-ized… and then trans women are othered as the “third gender” across cultures, with Oaxacan Muxes, Indian Hijiras, Native American Two-Spirits… like sorry native americans to take a jab at you but I can’t deny that it bears a resemblance to other world cultures… Māhū in Hawaii and Tahiti, fa’afafine in Samoa, fakaleiti in Tonga, something in Maōri, several tribes in Africa…. wild. I’m just thinking about how many trans men in history were forced back into the closet to become mothers, or killed, or passed but had to live completely stealth… trans women are “hyper-visible” (because misogyny turns women into objects and spectacles) and trans men are disappeared…
and if you’re going to argue that the third gendering is is a good thing then I have to ask how come there’s no third gender available culturally for people with vaginas? This is why the argument that some cultures were better or more accepting before European colonization falls flat… it was marginally better but still not that different. The sacred “third gender” was only for the girls with dicks, but even then the dolls were NOT recognized as “real women.” Take for example the Muxes of Oaxaca. My research says that these women cannot marry and have to remain celibate all their lives in order to be seen as worthy of their cultural importance or spiritual powers… and their community treats them like a mix between beloved gay boys and nice aunties. Like, I remember I watched El Secreto Del Rio, and in it there’s a scene where the main character, a trans woman, tells the group of Muxes, “I think ‘‘Muxe’ is fine but it’s not me. I want to be a woman! I AM a woman!” Beforehand, the Muxes had been telling her to settle for the Muxe label. That show is really wow
so we’re in a beautiful, new, special time rn, so don’t give up, don’t get divided over stupid infighting, seek autonomy and truth, & realize you have rights !
