For 20 years I've had the privilege of representing Canada around the globe... first on the bike and then on my blades. The experiences have shaped me into who I am today.
Some pretty awesome women rocked racing in the 90’s - here’s Sara Neil (Bike Cellar) 2nd, Marianne Berglund 1st, Clara Hughes (Team Khalua). Read our interview with Marianne on Pez here: https://pezcyclingnews.com/interviews/swedish-us-road-star-marianne-berglundgets-pezd-rider-interview/. #fastwomen #marianneberglund #saraneil #clarahughes @claraannehughes https://www.instagram.com/p/CBvvKWBl6-U/?igshid=1eutuyl85a89i
It's International Women's Day There is no one way to be a woman. To be a feminist means simply to believe in the equality between the sexes, and this is something that I cannot help but believe and teach my children. Each of these books were written by incredible, intelligent, strong, unique, funny, amazing independent women. Some of these books are funny, some are moving, some are sad, but they are all declarations of the female spirit. Today we smash the patriarchy, celebrate in our uniqueness, and stand together as feminists. Clara Hughes
Clara Hughes is a Canadian cyclist and speed skater. She is the only athlete in history to have won several medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympics. She has won 2 bronze medals in the 1996 Summer Olympics and 4 medals (one gold, one silver and 2 bronze) over the duration of 3 Winter Olympics.
Clara has won numerous awards over the years for her athletic achievements. Speed Skating Canadian 2004 named her Female Athlete of the Year for long track. In 2006 Clara was awarded the International Olympic Committee’s Sport and Community Trophy. Clara was also inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame on November 15th 2010.
In addition to being one of the greatest Olympians of all times, Clara is also the National Spokesperson for Bell Canada’s Mental Health initiative and the Let’s Talk campaign. Clara uses her past struggles with depression to help others with mental health issues and to help combat the stigma surrounding mental health.
Clara has shown a great resilience and bravery for overcoming her battle with mental health. Her determination and kindness are what makes her a true hero to us all. She has used her success to help others who truly need it. She should be celebrated and remembered for putting others needs above herself and for all of her hard efforts in her athletic achievements. She is a great Canadian athlete who inspires us all.
