i too managed to come out of being raised in the bush administration extremely socially inept and terrified of everything but at least my parents encouraged me since a young age to like. read shit. watch documentaries. took me to the library. be interested in other cultures. watch things that dont speak down to me just because im a kid. You can learn pretty young on your own that this country is a complete crock of shit if youre actually paying attention. I cant believe thats something i apparently took for granted, having an interest in the world around me that doesnt start and end with "how can i utilize this information to make my proverbial numbers go up"

Hey, this isn't hate, but all those guides on how to be chic, elegant, pretty and everything we all want to be. Let's be serious, none of them really have any useful tips. They are just basic guidelines on how to maintain hygiene, education and a minimum of style. Letting others talk is not chic, it's polite. I really feel like the only thing that will help you be chic is to notice the small details in your surroundings, to think about what you will do or what you do automatically. Not only will it help you to be elegant but also to be a person more aware of their surroundings. Being elegant is something that does not have an explicit guide, obviously there are details that will help you improve and become more elegant, but there are no tips that you do not already know.
