Cover each patty with a slice of American cheese and cook for one more minute. This will melt the cheese. Fry or grill the hamburger buns for a few seconds on each side while the burgers are cooking. Put the burgers together: Put lettuce leaves on the bottom half of each bun. Then put a burger patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, and onion slices on top of each burger patty. Put ketchup and mustard on the top half of the buns and then put them on top of the burgers that have been put together. Enjoy while hot!
