I saw one of my kindergarten students from my first year teaching at Target today. Both he and his mom came up to me and remembered me. He’s starting 6th grade tomorrow.
When I think back on my first year, I primarily remember all the things I did wrong and how much I’ve grown as a teacher since then. Turns out I must have done things right too. It reminds me that our job is so much more then teaching children to read and write. At the end of the day, if my kids feel loved and happy then my job is done. If they happen to learn a few things along the way then that’s just a bonus ❤️
In a world pushing more, faster, and louder, I’ve been returning to what actually works: slowing down, building community, and protecting children’s humanity in our classrooms. This is a quiet return to that work.
Keep your bodies to yourselves
Go wash your hands
Cover your cough/ sneeze
If you didn’t build it, you don’t get to destroy it
I love you
Thank you
Please
That’s amazing
You’re very talented
