Thinking about the time I was taking a linguistics course and had to do an exam on the IPA, and how I got points off on certain figures and words that I was damn near certain I got right—
And upon talking to my professor about it he realized I wasn’t wrong, I just had a stronger Boston accent than either of us thought 😭😭😭
Hello lovelies!
I really want to restart my language learning journey, particularly with Spanish above all else. (my boyfriend is bilingual english/Spanish and his family speaks majority in Spanish, so I feel like it's an appropriate time to learn.)
I'm not sure where to begin or how to work it more into my schedule again. I have lots of free time the next two weeks, but then school and work will start back up and I just really want to keep myself consistent and disciplined with it.
Any advice or recommendations, on how to start or where to even begin with incorporating it back into my routine? I want it to be a daily thing practice for me. What do yall recommend?
Also, for fun, what's the best aspect to primarily focus on when restarting your language learning journey?
What should I start with/focus on?
reading (books, articles, etc)
writing (workbooks, diary entries, etc)
listening (music, podcasts, TV, etc)
speaking (italki, in person, etc)
reading AND writing together
listening AND speaking together
a combination of all 4 (using multiple sources)
any app, book, movie, TV, music, podcasts, YouTube channel, workbook recommendations would also be helpful!!!

i dont know enough psychology to speak on it past linguistics and lang development, but i think a lot about raph often using illeism(referencing himself in 3rd person-well raph didnt wanna hurt his brothers feelings) in his speech my theories are: yoshi may have started teaching him japanese (sometimes u refer to urself by name socially, typically kids do this) or used a lot of baby talk, and maybe raphs mutation age had him at a strange spot for language development that he kept saying his name in speech Ionger than typically developing english speakers "hello red, daddy wants u to do this"→"ok lil bro, raph wants u to do this"
AND bc he seems to hvae dissociative personalities (mind raph, the amnesic left alone raph(that i believe is a younger alter)) and has stress related to often being in charge of his bros, and probably trauma related to being left alone in the sewers (likely when they were alI Very Young), and he seems ro get into disagreements with his alters, so illeism might be both a subconscious personal separation (there is a bit of research on the benefits of this particular effect in moderation) from emotional events and a distinction bw alters
im tryna find any speech lang pathology research on this, but im curious what anyone else in the fandom may think!
Curious development of the language: there's expat, there's immigrant, there's refugee and the last one: migrant.
The expat sits on the veranda and sips margaritas all day while watching working natives, gets drunk, pines for the homeland
The immigrant - your valiant ancestor, who came to the New World and built a better future for you with his/her hard work
The refugee - depends; a Russian Duchess fleeing the Bolsheviks with diamonds sewn in the petticoats - romantic, desirable, or an African dissident fleeing a puppet dictator - not so romantic and desirable
The migrant - crosses borders illegally, will eat your cat or dog, steal your job, at the same time doesn't work and lives on welfare paid by your taxes, is poor but has money from trafficking something, contributes to the housing crisis by paying exorbitant rent with his trafficking money but is homeless, illegal on all accounts and a threat to the national security everywhere.

want to know if used AAC to “babble “ , Like babies do . if it help to play with AAC device, if help with learning to communicate . or , If use for stimming .
