Peeking your head out from below the dock, you gaze at the men working to secure their ships to the wooden masts with barnacles clinging on for dear life. Large ropes that creak and groan under the pressure of keeping the swaying boats from simply floating away into the open sea, uncaring to the ocean's desire to reclaim them.

Hello everyone ! Not drawing clear rationality tonight because I got distracted by his eyes. While I was drawing them I realized they looked like yk. Pirate coins. Doubloons . Whatever the technical term is. Since it’s a pirate inspired skin yah ? Now because I’m a nerd for pirate stuff and antiques and archeology and old stuff in general whatever yap yap. I looked it up 🫵

So it looks like they take reference from spanish doubloons/pieces of eight (sorry I keep seeing different words for them in my research so I’m not sure which one to stick with 👍) with the cross symbol in the middle of his eyes resembling the Jerusalem cross portrayed on the coins

which I find really interesting ! This design specifically originates from silver Spanish dollars from the 1600s

Unfortunately I can’t find a ton of information on this specific coin since most of the results are from reselling websites and amazon ads for fake doubloons 💔 however this design comes up as “Spanish silver cob” as other countries referred to them as “cobs” bc of their irregular shapes before Spanish coins were created by machine(? I’m getting what little information I can find from the wikipedia page for the Spanish dollar rn) in 1732. So do feel free to look into it yourself !

I find it funny that the edges of his eyes resemble the casings for the gold doubloons being sold as necklaces/jewelry 😭
