Don’t Want To Lose You To Memories
On the day they reached their destination, the sky split asunder to drench them under darkening clouds as their leery eyes confronted the walls standing in the distance containing Lexa’s overrun sanctuary. “This is it.” With strands of hair sticking to her face, hands tightly gripping the damp straps over her shoulders, Lexa’s eyes grew distant as she stared at the walls that she helped build around the village with her people.
Swallowing down the sudden lump in her throat, she tore her eyes away from the sight to skim past Clarke to the house that sat on a bank nearby they could seek refuge in. “Let’s get out from under the rain.” Memories and emotions warred inside of her as she led Clarke across the field. Once reaching the stairs that took them up to a small porch, Lexa shivered at the mild rain that trailed under her soaked clothes.
Pulling out her dagger, she examined the door and the single pane window. Nothing looked out of place or used. It appeared just as she remembered from several months ago. Bending down, she tapped her blade against the lower paneling before pulling one back to reveal a small hole with a key lying inside. “He wasn’t joking,” she muttered with a snort to herself before picking up the key and inserting it into the lock.
Pressing her ear close to the door, she tried to make out any noises over the rushing sound of the rain. Cautiously, she turned the knob and pushed the door open to reveal an untouched and barren living room. It was homey and furnished nicely. Relieving the growing weight off her shoulders, she set the bags down before silently working with Clarke to confirm the house was clear of threats.
Amazingly, it was safe for them to shelter there just as she hoped. Setting her blade down, she trekked back over to the window to mutely gaze across the land to where she would confront her past. Crossing her arms across her chest, she suddenly felt small in comparison to the pain and trauma she has suffered. “I can’t believe we’re really here.”
