Dearest Native Invader, today you are 7 already! You are a verdant landscape of grief, protest, memory, and hope for the future. Reindeer King is an ebbing river of grief which evokes a frozen, mountain landscape. Broken Arrow is a warning for a wounded country. Cloud Riders is a breezy evening under the stars with the wind in your hair. Wildwood, one of my favorite Tori songs of all time, brings us the Tori familiar character of Persephone in a garden of corn flowers and Poppies (and/or puppies) where we bask in Spring rain. Up The Creek is what the kids call a banger. I will never forget someone saying early on that Bats was as if Concertina and Bug A Martini had a baby and I prayed that was true but didn’t get my hopes up because listening is so subjective-and then it was!! Another all time favorite. Bang is both celestial and earthly, reminding us we are all divine in the eyes of earth herself. Climb is a reminder to remain soft hearted in the face of struggle and mental and emotional captivity. Mary’s Eyes loops us back to Reindeer King, holding a sacred space for Tori’s mother. I remember how she was in all of our hearts at the time and always. And then there’s Russia- a funereal dirge, a dark shadow of a haunting and dangerous threat (or two). This record, perhaps more than any other of Tori’s, is a response to the tragedy of that time-when we were (and still are to some extent), held hostage by a person who has no real knowledge or allegiance to what America is about in her heart and soul. Scarlet is her sister of course, but back then we thought we had seen the worst of how dangerous incompetence could be. Oh, how wrong we were. As with Scarlet though, there are glimmers of hope on Native Invader, and beauty and healing out of sorrow. Even though Indian Summer is from Scarlet, Native Invader also teaches us there is another way (many ways) to pray. May those prayers Carry us through November and beyond. Happy Birthday, you strong, unflinching, beautiful girl ❤️🍂
Enfys Nest's Poem
Alt Text: Enfys Nest's helmet is decorated with a cermonial poem, written in a script known as "Dishabesh." However the version of the poem seen in concept art differs from the version seen in the film.
Cloud Riders
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Great costume designs
Enfys Nest and The Cloud Riders (sounds like a name of the rock band).
You know, Enfys Nest's mother probably hated Hondo Ohnaka's guts. The Ohnaka Gang was no Pyke Syndicate or Hutt Cartel, but they still pillaged the innocent, so the Cloud-Riders probably came into conflict with them at least once. I wonder what Enfys would think if she ever met Hondo post-Clone Wars. TBH I don't think Hondo would realize she and her mother aren't the same person— Dryden Vos doesn't seem to, he says she's been an irritation "forever," and he's operated since Maul ruled Mandalore.
I got this ask during soft hours but I don’t think it really applies, that said I did want to post it in case it inspires someone!
