Ghosts (the original UK/BBC version) is a British sitcom broadcast about a group of ghosts from different historical periods haunting button house while sharing it with its new living occupants, the cooper couple
The show was made by the group Them There, a theatrical production collective made up of a group of comedy writers and performers who had previously worked together on productions like the kids show Horrible Histories (but ill yap about that next time, its a whole different show but i feel like the heart of the show ghosts came from how much fun they had acting out characters in H.H.)
In the pilot as the couple inherit the house, The ghosts try to "haunt" them to make them leave. Allison Cooper, who end up having a bit of an accident falling from a window, ends up being so close to death that she can SEE the ghosts.
The show itself is such a gem ^^
Great characters, stories/backstories, the jokes are pretty solid and the cast has great chemistry both from onscreen acting and irl friendships.
Back to the original, the ghosts in Button house consists of (chronological by their death, and descriptions taken straight from the show wiki) :
Also Ghosts has several other versions from different places! Theres the CBS American, Greek, French, Australian, and German adaptations. I honestly think the world would be a great place with more different country versions with their own characters showing off their history like these did, that would be fire. I originally watched the american version first, but i havent finished watching all the other versions. Planning on continuing the australian version-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Robin, a caveman and the oldest ghost at Button House.
Humphrey Bone, a Catholic Tudor nobleman around the 1500s, beheaded. (long story) a ongoing gag is him (head) laying on either the floor or a table waiting for his body to finally stumble upon him and pick him up
Mary Guppy, ghost of a peasant woman who was burned at the stake at some point in the 17th century. Her ghost ability causes living people to smell burning by walking through her.
Katherine or "Kitty", ghost of a Georgian noblewoman who died in 1780. she is such a sweetheart, and her cause of death was a mystery up until it was revealed in later seasons.
Thomas Thorne, ghost of a Regency era poet. I hate this guy. but also my favorite guy, its complicated. The episode that explained his death story is such a good one, plot twist was a 10/10
Fanny (also called Lady Button), ghost of a former landowner from the Edwardian era. Distantly related to Allison if I remember correctly, hence how Allison got the house in present day. ghost ability later revealed in the series.
"The Captain" (whats his name you say? well its- train passes by -you see.), ghost of a World War II army Captain. his given name and death was not revealed until near the end of the series.
Patrick "Pat" Bobby Butcher, is the ghost of a scoutsmaster from the 80s, who died in an archery accident on the grounds just in front of Button House.
Julian Fawcett, the pants-less ghost of a Conservative MP who died at Button House in 1993. He has the ability to move objects slightly (which needs lots of concentration-)
That's all of them for the ghosts bbc show! I could explain the cbs US ghosts characters too, but this post is long enough.
Also the living couple! Alison Cooper, joint owner of Button House, which she inherited and like I said Is the one who possesses the ability to see the dead.
And Michael 'Mike' Cooper, the husband of Alison Cooper and has to deal with his wife suddenly talking to the air. I mean ghosts.
