Starbucks is now open in Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort. In a brief door opening ceremony, this state of the art building brought a new Starbucks experience to the Disneyland Resort. This environmentally friendly Leeds store incorporates new and old into the building as it brings guests the Starbucks coffee and experience in Downtown Disney. This Starbucks has a Clover Brewing System, Starbucks Reserve Coffee, an Interactive Wall, a living wall in the shape of a coffee cup, and is build to LEED standards.
The interactive wall at the Starbucks offers guests a chance to interact with guests at Starbucks at other Disney locations with other interactive walls. This video wall looks like a chalk board and allows guests to draw new pictures or modify a video that looks like a chalk rendering of the location. There are many different options for guests to explore and play with on this wall.
“The store’s coffee passion wall video is rendered to look like an animated painting or drawing. That handcrafted look is a reflection of the handcrafted beverages we serve every day around the world,” said Bill Sleeth, Starbucks vice president of design for the Americas.
The Starbucks in Downtown Disney has two $11,000 Clover Brewing Systems. These innovative machines utilize the reverse vacuum-press to make individual cups of coffee as the guest watches. A stainless steel filter lowers into the machine and freshly ground coffee is added. The system is customizable so that each type and cup of coffee is perfectly brewed and served at the perfect temperature for every cup of coffee that is ordered.
The coffee grounds are pushed through a 70-micron filter and end up on top of the machine by the end of brewing. The Clover® Brewing System is used to brew specialty coffee. At the Starbucks in Downtown Disney, this includes the Starbucks Reserve coffee line. The Clover® Brewing System is a unique and fun coffee experience that cannot be found anywhere else at the Disneyland Resort.
The store is built with reclaimed wood and includes a seating area that is built around an “old growth tree.” This tree was on the location before the Starbucks was even considered for the location. It is built to be environmentally friendly and innovative. The living wall consists of 1,000 plants that are planted on this wall to look like a cup of coffee. It will grow even more beautiful with time.
“Guests visit Disney parks and resorts around the world to share experiences with their friends and families and to create memories that will last a lifetime,” said Daniel Delcourt, vice president of Disneyland Resort Hotels and Downtown Disney. “This new location at Downtown Disney will appeal to their love of Starbucks, and provide yet another memorable experience at the Disneyland Resort.”
The Starbucks in Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort is a unique collaboration between two internationally recognized companies. “This store is a reflection of two iconic brands coming together to offer their customers the kind of high quality experience they expect in a way that embodies the unique passion of each,” said Arthur Rubinfeld, chief creative officer and president, global innovation for Starbucks. “Collaborating with Disney offered us the opportunity to create a unique moment of connection for our customers in a way that evokes the magic that their guests expect.”
On the opening morning, the Starbucks was serving guests with courtesy and efficiency. The store was comfortably full and guests were happily enjoying their coffee. Several registers were open and the queue to order coffee was moving along at a very steady pace. For those standing in line, there is plenty to look at as the building really is visually appealing. The feel of the store is relaxing, comfortable, and natural. It is sure to become a new favorite for coffee fans visiting the Disneyland Resort. It does provide free wifi from google but electricity is another matter. The strength of this wifi will undoubtably be tested in the coming days, weeks, and months.
This Starbucks location will be open daily (7:00 AM – 11:30 PM Monday-Thursday, 7:00 AM – 12:30 AM Friday-Sunday).
