i’m trying to put my finger on why it bothers me when people imply that wei wuxian is the only one with a cnc kink and lan wangji is just fulfilling wwx’s desires. as if lan wangji wasn’t the one tying wwx up and using the freeze spell on him first. as if lwj didn’t fully non-con wei wuxian years ago because he couldn’t hold back and lost control seeing wwx blindfolded and somewhat “helpless”. it’s very clear that lwj had a non-con kink first. in actuality the phoenix mountain kiss is probably what awakened the kink for wwx. idk maybe it feels sometimes that the fandom does the same thing that the novel critiques, assuming that wei wuxian just had to corrupt lan wangji, that’s the only reason he would be with him or do anything “not lan-like”. as if lan wangji didn’t make his own choices and fully stand by his decisions and accept culpability, for things that wwx never asked him to do

also, the novel intentionally showed wei wuxian feeling somewhat offended that no one would believe he was a virgin in his first life, while they would never believe lan wangji was anything but “pure” and ascetic. wwx also pointed out that mianmian’s daughter was more put off by him even though she saw lwj was the one who pinned wwx against the tree with his wrists tied. like it feels like the text is telling us something so when people claim the incense burner was just lwj wanting to fulfill wwx’s fantasy because he’s a “service top” going along with whatever wwx wants, it’s like ??? he was the one still dreaming about it years later, not wwx, so id say it’s just as much his fantasy and he’s equally into cnc. lwj is more ashamed but that’s one of the great things about their relationship is accepting it and exploring it to together

I'm a member of the ageplay community and when ageplayers are explaining the difference between ageplay and age regression, something I see a lot is the claim that "age regressed persons can't consent." But I've always felt that combining sex with age regression, ethically speaking, is no different than consensual somnophilia. And I know that many of the people saying age regression makes you unable to consent have no problem with somnophilia as a form of CNC.

Am I wrong for feeling this way about it?

It depends on a person-to-person basis. Age regression is experienced differently from individual to individual. If a person (while non-regressed) feels as though their regressed self is capable of consent, then thats what you should go off of.

Some forms of age regression impair consent. Some don't. It's important to not generalize either one as the "norm."
