Stranger things
also on ffnet | AO3
Fandom: Detective Conan / Case Closed
Summary: So she’s out of coins and full of laundry, the vending machine is a hateful device sent straight from hell, her fave piece of lingerie goes missing after ruining her entire life (or wardrobe, at that), and this random shirtless dude with the most impressive soccer legs ever is set on playing detective on her case. Surely, stranger things have (never ever) happened here. —[CoAi] [ShinShi] [Shinichi x Shiho]
Pairing: Kudo Shinichi | Edogawa Conan & Miyano Shiho | Haibara Ai
Genre and Rating: Romance; Humor (?)
Prompts: coin laundry, convenience store, vending machine, bus stop, collectors
A/N: This is a Secret Santa gift to my dear friend @merrymerpy [heart heart]. I did my best to incorporate all your prompts because it so happened that they made the most amusing storyline! The title has ZERO to do with the plot lmao, it’s actually more from the lyrics of The Hanging Tree than the actual TV show with that name.
Warnings: Foul language. A lack of common sense. Memes. I have a weird sense of humor.
He walks into the laundromat with two messy bags of dirty clothes and the confidence of a superhero, swinging his whites into washer four and punching an obscene amount of suits inside number six. From two machines down the line, Shiho side glances at the peculiar stranger with a mix of awe and curiosity.
His profile stands out in the ocean of rumbling machines, a boy around her age with hair raven as night and skin kissed by sunlight. He wears a Tokyo Spirits uniform, the distinguishable white and blue stripes sticking to his skin in a thin coat of sweat. He seems too much of a new face to be a regular, yet he’s recognizable enough to give a sense of familiarity. A new recruit for the team, perhaps? That would explain his attire, his hot-blooded mannerisms and the extremely impressive, well-toned legs she’s been staring at for the past ten seconds —
Wait, that’s not the point! The point is that Shiho swears she’s seen him somewhere before, but she can’t pinpoint where.

CoAi (or rather shinshi) secret santa @coai-week for @aaliyahcrosses !! hopefully you enjoy this gift from me fels~~ ;)
A secret Santa gift for Yoh
Hey, here’s a little fic I wrote you for your secret santa gift, hope you enjoy~~ Conan groaned at the alarm going off next to his head. He didn’t want to get up to go to school, but he knew Ran would have his head if she found out about him skipping class.
He dragged himself out of bed tiredly, flailing around for his glasses. Even though he didn’t really need them to see, it had become more of a habit to reach for them and put them on.
He went through his daily routine, and he could hear Kogoro downstairs, cheering at the tv (which presumably had a rerun of one of Yoko’s concerts).
He headed downstairs to quickly make some toast for breakfast and head out to school. This wasn’t anything near my as good as what he used to eat when Ran was still around, but it filled him up until lunch, which is all that mattered. He probably would’ve skipped breakfast altogether if it weren’t for the fact that he was in the body of a growing boy, and therefore needed all the food he could get.
Speaking of Ran, it had been a while since he’s spoken to her last, both as Shinichi and as Conan. As the time he spent as Conan grew, so did the distance between Shinichi and Ran. For the first few years, she still held on, hoping that one day he would return to sweep her off her feet.
But as days turned into months, and then into years, she called Shinichi less and less. She would still send worried text messages from time to time, but slowly they became less frequent as if she was forgetting about him. He knew that she wouldn’t completely forget about him, but he could sense her growing more distant from him.
He’d panicked at first, going to Haibara and demanding more antidotes, or anything that could get him back to his original state.
But as the years passed by, he had grown more and more tolerant to the antidote, to the point where he had stopped being able to go back to his older self permanently. After that, he had slowly come to accept the reality that he would never be able to go back to his old life, no matter how hard he tried.
Which lead him to where he was today, trudging along the sidewalk alone, missing the company that Ran and even Sonoko had provided him on his daily walks to school.
At first, he had hidden his true feelings away, putting up the cheery boy facade that he had perfected over the years of being Conan. But eventually he began to crack, and the sadness and pain leaked out onto his face when he wasn’t paying attention. Hattori and his parents had been the first to realize, and all of their attempts at cheering him up seemed to fail. His parents had tried buying him a bunch of books, which even though it provided a temporary escape, he would always come to face the harsh reality once he had finished the book, which further fueled his moodiness.
Hattori tried just spending time with him, taking his sightseeing around Osaka (which with their luck most of the time they ended up running into a murder), and while sometimes the murders proved to be a good mental challenge, being with Hattori only server to remind him of what he couldn’t have.
Even the professor tried to cheer him up by introducing new and fancy gadgets to Conan, which the kids found them interesting than he did.
However, his mood seemed to stay the same no matter what they did, and it would’ve slipped even farther if it weren’t for Haibara.
Whenever he was around her, he didn’t feel the need to put up any kind of mask, whether it be the mask he put around the adults who didn’t know his true identity or the one he put up to keep the people who really knew about his situation from worrying about him. Haibara seemed uninterested in trying to cheer him up, rather opting to just have him sit next to her while she performed various experiments in her lab. While normally these were quiet sessions, one session Haibara had decided to break the silence and ask Conan about his day. She started doing that more and more when he would come over to the professor’s to hang out in her lab with her, deciding to fill the air with pleasant small talk, to try and keep Conan’s mind off of all of the unpleasant things that plagued it daily. And after a while of just being together in the lab with Haibara, he finally seemed to be improving. His kiddish act was less forced, though he still could probably never make it 100% genuine. He wasn’t sulking around everywhere when people weren’t looking, and while he wasn’t necessarily the most cheerful looking kid out there, he certainly looked better than he had before he had started his arrangement with Haibara.
He had even started to let go of the feelings that he held so deeply for ran, Haibara taking the place that had once been reserved for Ran in his heart.
